The DOE said the move would cut air pollution and push consumer costs down by billions of dollars via energy savings.

If a solution existed that could truly provide both of these benefits (without a catch), then it wouldn't require government action to implement. The market would provide it

Edit: but there is a catch. A huge one. ACs that can provide this level of efficiency will be very expensive, and most likely wont be able to cool your home as quickly as current ACs.

I overheard my refrigerator chatting with the microwave this morning. He said, first they came for the gas oven, and I didn't say anything because I wasn't a gas oven. Then they came for the air conditioner, and I didn't say anything because I'm not a air conditioner. Then they came for me

Dunce here. Unless he can assure me that the cost of that upgrade won’t exceed any saving I am against it. Your arrogance is showing

There is no more efficient use of energy than gas for heating, cooking and hot water. I'm sure the Marxist hens who handle the senile old fool don't know where electricity comes from.

only a dunce can be against that. op went for faux outrage with fake news thread title. Biden's not against a.c.

It's really adorable that you think these new appliances are going to magically become more efficient at the exact same price as before. So cute. I'm sure all of those people buying new ACs are going to pay exactly the same amount as they paid before because that is how new and improved models have always worked. The only way the dems are going to keep from hitting consumers with higher price tags is by forcing tax payers to foot the bill with credits. Otherwise all the poorer people in the south will have to pay more for ACs out of their increasingly shrinking purchasing power.

Sorry but this you can't magically increase efficiency with no costs to the consumer. If they could, these AC manufacturers would have already done it.

But thanks for the input dunce.

I bet that yellow sticker they slap on it will claim major savings

In reality, it will cost twice as much and your electricity bill won't be lower, perhaps even higher (like the water savings for toilets that take 3 flushes to get the terd down)

Instead of a 2 gallon flush, it took 3 one gallon flushes.

Government always seems lean toward doing things by force or coercion when free enterprise does it better.

I converted to all LED's for lighting when the price came down. I have nearly 50 bulbs in fixtures in my apartment. Most of them are 8 years old now. I love the fact that they use about 1/10th the power of incandescent bulbs and don't burn the fixtures out due to heat. If something makes sense, government doesn't need to mandate it.

Of course, the idiot Cult of AGW, doesn't make sense.

Not surprised.

Look at the state's that need HVAC (due to heat/humidity) vs those that vote for to current regime.

Stolen elections have consequences.

Residential HVAC systems already went up about 30% across the board at the beginning of the year with the SEER to SEER2 efficiency changes.

Goodman has already rolled out a 2-6% cost increase this month.

They will do their best to make residential split systems so expensive that a significant portion of the population won't be able to afford HVAC systems in their houses.
