The certification process whereby objections can be made and debated is part of the peaceful transfer of power. When the courts declined to rule on the merits, the President and his supporters in the Congress had every legal right to object just as had occurred in previously elections that had been tainted by fraudulent conduct.
Relatedly, though, it does raise the question of which side had a motivation to storm into the Capitol on January 6th and disrupt the legal proceedings.

All I know is that American was as good as it’s ever been under Trump - and he was the best president we’ve ever had - and it wasn’t close.

The objections that were planned to be made and debated was the goal of Stop the Steal. Trump was putting pressure on Republican senators to support objections from various congressmen.
