He wants the govt to make money off of the poor?

Maybe they should offer ID services also so these people that can't get an ID to vote can pick up an ID when they pick up their government checks every month.

I don’t think this policy is going to be as popular as his “free shite for everyone who votes Bernie!” economic fiesta.

My first Thought as well.
Bernie: hey let's make billions off the poor people like the payday loan comapnies are doing now but we will be different because will treat them with respect.
Well at least he is honest and upfront about his scheme..

So he wants the USPS to make money off the back of poor people.

UPS has a deal with USAA in which you can conduct some banking services such as certified checks at a UPS store.
That's a deal between two private companies though.

Put a big stamp on Bernie ‘s head and mail him to North Korea to be quartered and eaten by Kim Jong Un, the Ex-Rocket Man soon to be the new Mc Donald’s Clown.....

I could see where they could offer prepaid debit cards for direct deposit. This wouldn't be a disaster but any sort of payday loan service would be an epic shitshow.

The postal service could make billions of dollars a year . . . off of lower-income people.
.....and there is Bernie Sanders' Socialism in a nutshell.

It works in every developed nation in the world and worked here until 1966 when the banking industry whined about the competition.
There are still vast regions of the nation without local banks. You and I may not wait in line to do it but many folks do indeed have to pay exorbitant fees to liquor stores and pawn shops to cash a paycheck. The post office is there, it is open during normal banking hours and it is as convenient as a bank for many Americans. This is simply common sense.
I know this may come as a shock to some of you but not everyone lives amidst miles and miles of restaurant chains and retail stores. But almost everyone lives near a post office. This is a very popular idea in rural America......places where liberal isn’t exactly what comes to mind immediately. It is a compelling idea.

This would not be the case if the same folks had the use of a bank, which most have ruined their banking in the past.

Based on the history of the left, the opposite is true: it's a redistribution of wealth scheme to be run through the USPS.
The basis of any plan from the left is Marxism.

I'll go buy a pack of Kools and some scratch tickets with federal reserve notes.
You try the same thing with an empty Social Security or gov't sponsored bank account and let me know how that goes.
We'll laugh about the irony afterwards.

They can get a checking account at a regular bank if they need basic banking services.
If they need loans, maybe they wouldnt have to go thru payday loan places if they didnt screw up their credit by defaulting on previous loans. Banks like loaning money to people they think will actually pay it back.
Banking should be left to the private market. This is just Sanders trying to promote communism by having the government get involved in that market, because it would start off as just short term loans to the poor and inevitably expand into more and more services that private banks already handle.

I couldn't imaging banking at a place that always smells like a warehouse full of feet and dirty socks.
Why would Bernie want the poor to suffer, and pay to bank, at such a foul smelling place?

The worst run organization in the country taking your deposits and investing them.....what could possibly go wrong

I get what you are saying with this and it seems like a reasonable idea. But it is not necessary and the whole "govt could make billions off of the poor" statement is what i found
There are currently many banking options, in the private sector, that are already available for people living in rural areas. In todays world it isn't necessary for a local bank branch. Direct deposit, check cards and online banking takes the need for a local bank out of the equation. Hell most walmarts now have banking inside the store.
No way would cash at the USPS be a good idea, they would need to install vaults, hire security, train staff, etc. Those small rural PO locations would be a huge target and probably an easy score for criminals. Say it was a no cash system and they issue check cards... well that already exist in private sector..
We need to Keep the Govt out of the business sector. Banking, healthcare and etc. What's next, Govt telcoms? Govt manufacturing jobs, hell just let the Govt own and run every type of business services...hmmm that sounds like communism.

I mean it's still true. USD is as much of an IOU as anything. Go full ancap and use gold or crypto.
