Communist sympathies not with standing..do you think if it was possible for a world wide ban on creating an artificial....well more to the point, an alien super intelligence, that it would be a good idea? We wont..but I think we should.

The us has already lost the ai race because we’ve built our economic house of cards around it meanwhile China releases a better ai that costs 300 bucks and runs on a floppy disk

I don't know that it necessarily has to be to our ruin, but our ruin will definitely come if you allow communist China to win the race.

There is a level of AI capability that I find acceptable. Current models are fine but we are fast approaching a level of risk that could be an existential one for our entire species. Musk puts that risk at around 20% for total annihilation. The Russian roulette odds. Other developers and researchers put the risk lower or as high as 50%. So no I would not risk our species on developing an alien super intelligence even if it meant saving my self or child.
In the early 2000's, tech leaders and the leading AI researchers pretty much agreed that once we reach the point we are at now, our leaders should be well versed on the implications of the technology and robust legislation and guard rails should be established by world governments. That has not happened ....its still the wild west in a lot ways and our leaders are for the most part completely ignorant of the threats we face. Many are looking at short term profit potential and nothing else. We are in very dangerous and uncharted waters.

You are assuming this super intelligence will be aligned with China's "side" if they build it or the U.S. if we do. Lesser forms of AI yea...probably..its gets murky from here on out as these neural nets start behaving as independent "thinking "agents. Its murky b/c like the human mind, we dont really understand how they work. Its not just inputted code they are working with now. It like a human mind in its complexity but totally alien as far as how it will perceive us...all of us

In China everybody gets a fun factory job with a pension. In the us everybody toils at the email gulag to pay the higher electric and water bills caused by the data centers

Not true. if there was no danger of artificial super intelligence not doing our bidding than no one would be worried about it. That is the whole point of concern. No human will be able to control it. This is different that AI iterations we have now or may have in the next year or two or maybe even AGI..
