Hasn't charged tuition since 1982, and just completed a hydroelectric power plant. Oh, just named top college in Kentucky by WSJ.

quote:

Only two schools ranked in the top 10 for best value are private universities – Berea and Stanford. The rankings measure the best value among the top 250 schools by dividing each institution’s overall score by its net price.

The 2.64 megawatt plant is located at near Ravenna in Estill County and began generating electricity for Berea College in May. The turbines provide enough electricity to power about 1,200 homes and will supply about half of the college’s energy needs on an annual basis.

How do they create a luxury lazy River or a full service gym for students without tuition?

Oh, they don’t do those things? How do the students even learn?

This is the death knell for any solution for the dems.

How dare Berea putting their students into slavery conditions.

College of the Ozarks (Hard Work U) operates under a similar model...

Gasp at the thought of actually working while going to college...

That place is amazing. Beautiful campus and you see students working all over campus, mowing grass, working in the food service locations on campus, etc. It's full of artsy creative types and the faculty are just as liberal as every other university but so far they haven't managed to screw it up the way they have everyother campus in America.

Nailed it. A few years ago, I went on a tour of European colleges and sat on panels discussing American higher education.

At a university in the Czech Republic, there were several questions about the spending habits of American colleges on things that did not add to the educational process. One person had a picture of the LSU lazy river. I could only laugh and say that was the school where I received my doctorate. Which erupted a crowd of Czech students in laughter.

I have a list of universities across the South that are doing great things and are conservative. When I am asked about it, parents are excited. When they see it and realize that none of the places have great football teams, they become less excited. Parents are going to have to drive this train and realize that the LSUs that they went to 20-2\30 years ago are not good for their kids today.

How about sharing that info with the class? I'd be interested to hear it.

If Ralston College gets off the ground (Savannah) it looks promising. It has a lot of backers. Seems similar to St. Johns.

In addition to the aforementioned Berea and College of the Ozarks, here are the Dandy Dozen:

Ouachita Baptist in Arkadelphia, Arkansas
Union in Jackson, Tennessee
Carson Newman in Jefferson City, Tennessee
Berry in Rome, Georgia
Samford in Birmingham
Mississippi College in Clinton, Mississippi
University of Dallas
Dallas Baptist University
Lee University in Cleveland, Tennessee
Harding University in Searcy, Arkansas

If you go to those schools above, you have to look to get into progressive/liberal crap.

If you must go to a larger college, here's the list - but its not perfect and more liberalism exists than the above schools

Louisiana Tech
Texas A&M
Arkansas
Mississippi State
Georgia Tech
Belmont
Clemson
Alabama-Huntsville

No surprise here. It definitely won’t be a public university

I live minutes from there and can confirm, it's very liberal, which is odd because it's in the middle of on of the most conservative areas in America.

Also, being somewhat involved in the electric field, one of the few things I disagreed with Matt Bevin on was how he cut funding to these new energy projects. Coal isn't coming back, so why not invest in alternatives?

Berry produces a lot of lefties. They're usually of the Christian woke variety, but still.

Thanks, will research some of these.

I keep hoping that Hillsdale College will start a satellite campus down south.

I went to St. Johns in Annapolis. Love it enough to give a bit to the endowment still. Tell me more about Ralston. I assume the curricula will be based on the Great Books? Savannah would be a great setting for that sort of education.
