Adding to my post above:

The Kaaba - that black cube-shaped object in Mecca that Muslims take pilgrimages to see, and pray toward every day, was, according to the Quran, originally built by Adam. It is the world's first house.

Over the years, it has been destroyed and rebuilt multiple times on the same spot. For example, it was destroyed during the great flood. Abraham and Ishmael rebuilt it.

When Mohammed came on the scene, it became the most holy site in Islam. But he was sent into exile in Medina, and a group of multi-theists gained control of the Kaaba.

Eight years later, Mohammed was able to reestablish control of the Kaaba. Allah directed him to destroy all idols, just has he had instructed the Jews to do during the time of Moses.

So he did. But he preserved one item - a painting of Mary and Jesus.

Do Jews treat images of Mary and Jesus with the same respect and allow them to be displayed in their most holy places?
