fricking American Auto business is about to become more greedy.
This is a gift to BiGCorp who we continually have to bail out.
Why?
This will hurt Ford, GM and Stellantis potentially just as bad as the "foreign" brands. Ford and GM have more foreign made cars than domestic.
Domestically produced BMW, Toyoda, Nissan and Mercedes can avoid these tariffs.

So, they are "assembled" in the US?

Along with Kia and Hyundai.

Because everyone, including Domestics, will raise prices.
Its a subsidy.

That doesn't sound reciprocal.

Yes
He said that US made parts assembled into vehicles in foreign countries would not be tariffed. Meaning a portion of the vehicle value would get a pass, but not the entire thing.
I'm sure the inverse applied as well. ie-Foreign parts will be tariffed on vehicles assembled in the US.
*For those that do not know, assembly plants do not make most of the parts in a car. They assemble parts from many factories into a car.

What’s wild is there’s probably more Kia’s made in America than Chevy Silverados

Well there's been a 25% tariff on pickup trucks for like the last 50-60 years.

The United States last year imported nearly 8 million cars and light trucks worth $244 billion. Mexico, Japan and South Korea were the top sources of foreign vehicles. Imports of auto parts came to more than $197 billion, led by Mexico, Canada and China, according to the Commerce Department.
The tariffs cover the supply chain as well.

*The above numbers show the "$600 billion to 1 trillion dollars in tariffs" he expects to get over the "next year or two" is ridiculous and just another example of him throwing out bullshite which his loyal fans lap up.

I agree!
I don’t see this resulting the way he intends it. It’ll be too late by the time more cars are fully produced here

Its a half truth.
The downside of the quotas accelerated the Japanese auto industry.

fair pricing
I don't think you understand what he's saying.
If more expensive foreign cars become even more expensive than they are now due to tariffs, the domestically produced cars will go up in price also.
Competition keeps prices down. Lack of competition means that the manufacturers will charge more because they can. Which is the opposite of fair pricing.

fair treatment
What does that even mean?

American jobs
If enough jobs to build the foreign cars that currently end up being sold in America all ended up being relocated here, you wouldn't be talking about very many jobs. As other people have pointed out, depending upon what Trump means, not many manufacturers would be impacted by these tariffs (hopefully the case) because pretty much all cars are manufactured both here and abroad (partially here, partially abroad). Even Ford and Chevy.
The rebuttal to that is that if it doesn't affect many manufacturers then it will have little impact on the market in any sense, which is what I hope is the case.

It would seem that that would then include even auto manufacturers we think of as being domestic, yes?
Every major auto maker relies on parts from overseas.

Nah, those salesmen will leave all that on the table. They'll do that, won't they?
Just like they do when they put surcharges on hot models and sell them for $20k over list.
