Attorneys in Poli-Board Losing Their Sh*t

Serious question. For the record, I’m no attorney.
Clients enter meeting. They are hopped up freaking out because of xyz. I understand calmness from a situation because of detachment on your part.
However, when things go crazy in your life do you still have the same calmness? If so, how?
I ask because we all have turmoil, and it seems my attorney friends just take it on the cheek, and go on.
I also ask because you are the only folks I’ve witnessed seem calm as f*ck, when the average person would lad lose their sh*t.
Is there something you learn in law school that automatically makes you calm in stressful situations?

I get it. Personal opinions and attorney bashing are invalid in this thread. This is a serious question.

Attorneys look at panic-stricken clients the way lions look at panic-stricken antelopes.

1st off, the longer they drag things out the more they get paid so while you’re sitting there sweating bullets they’re calmly counting billable hours in their head. 2nd, they usually get paid whether they win or lose. 3rd, they despise going to trial because it’s easier to make deals. and yeah, they’re scum.

You want performance under pressure? be a neurosurgeon or Army medic on the battlefield or landscaper or dog walker.
All these jobs require more intelligence & grit than soft self-absorbed lawyers.
Ask somebody who actually works for a living.

Remaining calm usually helps the client. When dealing with stressed out people you don’t want to make them feel worse. But sometimes you will get riled up to show your client that you can’t believe the horrible situation they have been placed in. Law school has nothing to do with it. Also it is just something you learn on the job. Dealing with people problems all day does take a toll and we have a high rate of alcohol abuse etc.i think of engineers as being the calmest people I know.

I suspect that after you’ve seen freaked out clients for The fiftieth time one figures out how to be the adult in the room .... and yes, they are scum.

You didn't really think you'd get anything other than negative feedback about attorneys here did you?

emotional decisions usually don't work out well

The OP is obviously one of the distraught clients.

Lol, I suppose not. And apparently everyone has missed the main question.
Are attorneys as poised in their own lives under stress as they are while dealing with clients?
If so, was it learned in law school.
And if so, what’s the secret.
It’s easy to be calm dealing with others’ issues as a third party.

Well they are dogsh*t, so losing themselves isn’t much of a stretch

Just an ignorant statement. In the cases where billable hours come in, it's usually family law and the idiots who "drag it out" are usually the 2 morons getting divorced.

Dealing with the public teaches you true human nature. I like to charge more now for difficult people because they take up more time.

Most things work out. A lot of lawyers see that in their practice.
If shite hits the fan, our society has a process to resolve it, which attorneys are familiar with.
Those two things probably help lawyers stay calm in a large percentage of things that come up in life.
But be sure of one fact though, when shitty things happen to an attorney personally that are actual big problems, their ability to handle it is the same or often much worse than non-attorneys. Which is why the profession has a higher rate of finding a bottle or a bullet.

Think about pilots, trauma surgeons. It is responsibility. How do you achieve your goal? Do you get there by emotion or objectivity. That is where calm comes from.
Battlefield commanders: Leadership and goal oriented. Would you follow a leader that was freaking out?
The scenes lawyers face are rather pale by comparison. What they do is important but come on, man.
