Are you fighting back on social media?

I have these conversations with old buddies from high school. The consensus is they don't want to say anything because they just don't want to deal with the mob, but that they can't believe how many people they are friends with or went to school with have bought into the narrative completely.
Are you engaging with these people? Is it worth it? How is it going?
It seems like everybody is scared to death to say anything back to these people, which allows these ideas to be perpetuated and even thought to be "correct."
Is it hopeless?

Yes. It's become a battleground lately and I think it's important to try and talk some sense into some of my friends and family that have gotten themselves so worked up that they're ready to go out and do something stupid.
And lately, over the last couple of days, I think the good guys are starting to regain control.

I agree with you. The time of saying, "frick it I'll wait for the election" seems past.
I think we HAVE to begin making people question their prior assumptions, which have been force fed to them and never questioned.
I realize you have to tread lightly, but the Socratic method is still very effective and can be done in a less antagonistic way.

I think in many cases they're not even hearing a different version of the truth.
I'm seeing some difference with people I know who mean well and aren't simply trolls. They're people I either grew up with or went to school with. You CAN get beyond the brainwashing if you try.
They know I'm not a racist, even if they attempt to call me one, it just falls flat. Obviously doesn't work with everyone.
I see the question often hear of "when are we going to DO something?" If enough people start putting forth their version of the truth and not give a shite about the backlash, more will follow.

This. If you are making any posts on social media, I would steer far away from any current events or really anything remotely addressing societal or political issues. It also wouldn't hurt to go through your old posts and delete posts that talk about such things. You never know when some a-hole will go find something you said 10 years ago. Unfortunately, that's where we have landed as a society. If you're going to try to "talk sense into people" 1) it's likely not going to work and may jeopardize a friendship; but if you must 2) do it in person and in private

Being in your 20s when you make a comment on social media doesn't prevent someone from bringing it back up 10 years later. Look at some of the people getting fired or "cancelled" because of something they posted when they were teenagers
