did they sacrifice so we could surrender our freedoms to a Socialists government?
They believed in guiding the country through morals. So, they didn't ever believe that the government would grow to what it has become.
Funny what happens when our elected officials will quickly sell their morals for power or money.

Dems are openly embracing socialism, normalizing it, and secretly pushing for flat out communism. Baby steps.

We’re largely already there.

Yep. The founders started a revolution over taxes over which they had little say, but which only amounted to 1-2% of their income.

Now the average American pays 40%+ of their annual income to the government in some form or fashion (income tax, property tax, license fees, gasoline tax, state and local tax, among hundreds of other items). Just a century ago that percentage was still only in the single digits.

What will happen if this ideology becomes the majority?

It will eventually. Societies never get more conservative, but always more liberal. Then shite goes to hell, civil wars happen, society collapses. Then everything is rebuilt and people are conservative and freedom loving again. Rinse and repeat.

I'm just glad that by the time we go full blown Soviet communism, I will be dead. We'll go through several stages of socialism before we get there, though. Hell, we've been socialist to some degree since FDR.

Yes. It's a slow trend. The big accelerations were giving women the right to vote, then FDR and social security, then LBJ and the welfare state.

We have had stoppages of the trend but never a reversal or dismantling of a social program.

All we can do is get out and vote republican in the elections. The more people that vote for republicans the more likely it is that democrats will become more moderate again .

Sooner or later. When enough of the useless can vote themselves the treasure of those who are not it will happen and this country will be doomed and try to force them to continue to do it.

Then Atlas should shrug rather than try and hold up the weight of their need.
