A very seasoned incumbent politician (Edwards) ran against a rookie and only got 51% of the vote.

The rookie won 40 of the 69 Parishes across the state. The big cities got the incumbent elected as he won each by one of the widest margins seen in the states history.

What you see here is more of a story of how demographics can play in an election and why our founding fathers believe an electoral college was prudent at a federal level.

Don't believe me? Then explain why both the Louisiana House of Representatives with it's 105 total members is majority Republican? Why the Louisiana State Senate with 59 total members is majority Republican?

Despite the above, we have an overwhelming history of the state being run by a Democratic Governor.

While not an exact example, Louisiana's lawmaker make-up resembles what can happen if it elected a governor using an electoral college and not a popular vote... since 1960 Louisiana has had a Democratic Governor for 40 years, and a Republican for only 24, while the Sate Capital is typically controlled by Republicans.

Edwards won for a second term for number of reasons, and "Trump dump is poison" is not one of them, but that won't fit the national narrative...
Nearly total domination of the urban vote is the biggest reason.

KY race had an extremely unpopular incumbent gop governor who was down 20 points

Not in any polls I saw during the election

He almost won

No, when he raised taxes, he insured his loss.

If you want to win as a Republican incumbent, the last thing you do is raise taxes. Louie Nunn did it before his second term and was voted out of office in the 1967 election as the incumbent. Cost the Republican's the Governors office till 2003 when Fletcher won. Fletcher could have easily won reelection except he violated the state merit system by trying to replace all the jobs during his first term. Would have won if not so greedy.

I was at the Trump rally the night before the election and many I spoke with in the crowds were from out of state (could not vote in KY election) and had no effect on the outcome. If Trump truly wants to help the local electorate, he would make sure his rally's were 100% registered voters in the state. He would also ask for state donations rather than his own donations in a non POTUS cycle.

No and this is a germans thread. JBE telling Trump bless your heart was diabolical. The fricked faked kumbaya moderacy.

Louisiana will lose as the dems will stack your state with higer taxes, muh statues removals, continued loss of jobs, NGO's to make it nearly impossible to return from. I blame this on the open party primary, butthurt Abraham voters, and voting for 2 weeks. Anybody would have been better than JBE-
