Mildly irresponsible to report this without more info on APs part

Howcome? ISIS, an extremely newsworthy foe, has claimed responsibility. That's the news. AP did you the favor to interject that ISIS didn't provide evidence while claiming it.

It's absolutely newsworthy.

I find it hard to believe but I also am under the impression that they don't claim shite willy nilly.

Recent converts are usually the most enthusiastic.

Even if he did convert to ISIS months ago, I have a hard time attributing a mass shooting by a 60+ year old white guy to radical Islam. Probably just a crazy loon looking for a way to make himself be more of an a-hole when he already had plans to commit mass murder.

I get it

but I think "radical Islam is dangerous not just because it attracts loyal muslims to commit acts of terror, but because it attracts vulnerable crazy people" is a very real argument

Hillary Clinton needs to revise her tweets and call for a ban on Islam

Yeah I mean it's not like Islam has many recent ties to violence except for the 3 different terrorist attacks yesterday in Edmonton, Marseilles, and Las Vegas
Why would anyone believe that any lawbreaking incident could be anything other than Muslim related?

Extremely rare they claim attacks without a loyalty or ideological connection, however. A lot of claims obviously relate to people who claim motivation or adherence to IS but who have never been in direct contact.

Which means they are claiming shite they have nothing to do with. To attribute those incidents to ISIS operations is sensationalism and it actually helps ISIS achieve its goal of appearing more capable as an organization than it actually is.

so if youre a Filipino-American, and go to Dubai on vacation, youre automatically assumed to be an ISIS terrorist

I don't know if that's possible.

True. But the vulnerable crazy people can be set off by anything. A video game. A character in a movie. An actress they love. The KKK. Radical Islam.

Thankfully, only Islam draws in vulnerable crazy people.

It's all so very convenient.

If ISIS starts claiming responsibility for things they are not involved with, then they will lose credibility. They know that.

Another agency reporting it

Yes, obviously. Because Dubai isn't a massive tourist destination with a massive SE asian population. It also isn't a major travel hub.

Everyone that goes there is a Muslim who could turn into an ISIL one day.

Sandy Hook, Aurora and Dylan Roof all say hi.

ETA: Let's just wait for the details to come out. If he's a terrorist, ok, we'll investigate. If he's a crazy loon who went on a suicide mission but wanted to take a ton of people out first, we'll investigate that too.

If you're a Filipino-American, and go on vacation to Dubai before your boyfriend shoots 250 people and ISIS claims responsibility, some people may be somewhat suspicious

That's fine, but that doesn't answer the question of whether they're going to find this guy, at least in his mind, became an IS convert.

Has he eaten bacon in the last year? Any man who hasn't eaten bacon in the last year or so is most likely affiliated with ISIS. This is scientific fact.

A trip to Dubai adds about .000000000001% more likelihood of ISIS affiliation. Internet history and emails will be the key if he is affiliated.
Fortunately, that's all been wiped clean.

Now an entire history can be created for him. And, of course, he's dead, so he can't refute it.
