3 or 7 most likely. If it was 4 I don't think Trump would hide it.

I don't know what happened but after living there for a while and dealing with the state gov, I'll say this much: if any state is capable of totally dropping the ball on something like this, it's HI.

4) NK really did launch "something" but we zapped it from space (or used some other counter-measures from land or sea to ground it). EBS was sent out just in case our counter-measures failed. The only reason they didn't admit it to the press is because our counter-measures are classified and they didn't want the press inquiring. (By the way, I know for a fact we do have such counter-measures)

What if they just launched something to the ocean east of Japan and we misjudged the trajectory?

With the way the aftermath of the Las Vegas shooting was handled (lone wolf, no links to terrorism followed by the revelations yesterday that he was an arms dealer who was certainly in contact with someone or multiple someones) the chance of it being an accident is probably relatively low.

The government is turning into Bhagdad Bob when it comes to official explanations of events.

My first thought was this was the work of someone making a political point.

Either someone trying to make a point did it or it was an accident. I would imagine the alert system doesn’t require 4 input codes and keys to turn at the same time to activate. I would bet it’s a simple computer terminal a ton of people have access to.

You missed the point. The "pushed the wrong button" belongs in the list of "You had one job to do..."

Mistake makes more sense than conspiracy. I like conspiracy talk but it takes too many people for it to really be valid

While certainly possible why would a "ton" of people have access to a button that can cause panic and mayhem on a large scale?

I think this was definitely a political move to make Hawaiians uneasy.

That seem plausible. Hawaii is basically a Disneyland for Obamatrons. The same place that had Obamas mother's good friend Mrs. Fuddy "validate" the birth certificate and then killed her a few months later. Very Clintonesque imo.

If this is not true, we should have the name of the person who actually pushed the button and a call from all media outlets to interview that individual.

Tulsi Gabbert immediately blamed it on Trump on CNN like a DNC script. Lots of integrity there Tulsi.

How could it be a mistake, unless "the button" that is labeled "Just a Drill" is right next to the button that says "We're All Gonna Die!" button?

Problem is this can get people killed. Next time they people might question if it is another "mistake" and not seek shelter. As other said, the wrong button excuse is fake, we need to truth of it all but we will never get it.

Pretty easy.

They were doing a drill. The drill apparently required a full simulation, but it was not supposed to go "live."

As others have pointed out, there was probably several levels of command authority for various steps, but it's possible they thought they were offline when they weren't. It happens.

Y'all are giving government workers and volunteers too much credit.

I'm going with a combination of 5 and 6. It's strange the second message took 40 minutes to appear. It's as if they were waiting for a response from Trump. He didn't give them one, so they had to send the mistake message.
