The best thing Trump could do would be to bow out and help fight the Democratic Party.

It's ok for someone to like another politician with the same political goals even if it would be another politician to make those goals reality. In 2020 there were 11,067,456 votes cast in Florida. Trump received 5,668,731 good for 51.22%. So far, according to ABC, a total of 7,762,046 votes have been cast for Governor, 3,305,410 fewer votes than in 2020. DeSantis has received 4,609,124 good for 59.38%.
If there were 11,059,607 votes cast for Governor, DeSantis would just need 1,069,184 out of 3,305,410 votes to match Trump's total. The percentage on that is less than 1/3 (32.1%). Basically, an inbred hick could easily get that mark. If DeSantis got just 3 out of every 8 votes (37.5%) of the 3,305,410 votes he'd receive 170K more than Trump did.

Even to the degree any of that is accurate, it's sloppy messaging and terrible strategy, and completely unnecessary.
