Any unauthorized person entering the Capitol building on January 6, 2021, was breaking the law. Do we not wish to see lawbreakers suffer the full consequences of their actions?

And, no, the Capitol Police cannot arbitrarily authorize the public to enter when it is closed to the public.

You either want the law applied equally, or you are a hypocrite.

Yall always leave our the part that the "protest" was about stopping the peaceful transfer of power via force.

Kind of a big fricking deal.

So….despite your mischaracterization of the events that occurred, I just want to be clear. According to you the underlying reason for a protest is an important element of the 1st amendment?

This is not true.

They had to put an 8 foot fence around a Federal Courthouse in Portland and the
the protesters were tearing it down and tossing gasoline and fireworks
inside at the police sheltering there

Show me some life sentence convictions and I will agree with you

No, they can't authorize people by simply opening the doors of the capitol when the building is closed to the public. All of those people were trespassing - at least. Many were trespassing as well as committing other crimes such as theft and breaking and entering.

That's not how it works. First I have to say he shouldn't be prosecuted, which I never have. Second, if he broke the law he should pay the consequences. Why shouldn't he?

Because it was closed to the public on that day.

You can't simply enter public buildings at any time you feel just because it's a public building. Grow the frick up.

Unless someone in a position of authority opens the doors to said building and escorts you around. Then you can.

So, your belief that the law should be applied equally is conditional?

The Capitol Police were not the ones who determined that the building would be closed to the public, therefore they were not authorized to allow the public in on January 6, 2021.

You know this, you would be making the same exact argument if the parties were switched.

The party you support literally encourages people to break our immigration laws and helps facilitate the law breaking

And yet they did authorize access to the public, and the public had a reasonable expectation to assume that the Capitol Police did, in fact, have the authority to allow them entrance into the building.

If he doesn't pardon them all day 1 it will be tragic. He was kind of up against it though. I am on record on this board prior to the J6 events saying it was a terrible idea and incredibly selfish of him to get his supporters out there. Very selfish.
