Angela Merkel's 'heir apparent' in Germany quits, in potential shakeup to country's future (FoxNews)

quote:

Amid Brexit and a populist rise from the far right, Germany, seen as Europe’s anchor of stability and neoliberal centrism, is now facing an uncertain political future as Chancellor Angela Merkel’s “heir apparent” declared on Monday that she is quitting.

Annegret Kramp-Karrenbauer told senior Christian Democratic Union members she would step down as the governing party’s leader and not seek the chancellorship in next year’s decision.

The surprise decision upended Merkel’s plans to hand Kramp-Karrenbauer the reins of power after more than 15 years as chancellor.

“I took note of this decision with the utmost respect, but I also say that I regret it,” Merkel told reporters, thanking Kramp-Karrenbauer for her work and for agreeing to stay on until a new party leader is chosen.

quote:

Manfred Weber, a German member of the European Union parliament who leads a center-right bloc in the EU legislature, told daily newspaper Welt that the situation in Thuringia reflected a Europe that “is in a phase of growing instability; politics is becoming more serious.”

“In general, it is a sign of growing instability among the parties of the middle all across Europe. The parties of the middle must draw their red line to those with radical right tendencies,” Weber said. “This approach from Kramp-Karrenbauer was and is correct.”

I read this earlier today. My hope is that Europe will maintain at least some form of the EU, even if it has to be a smaller coalition.

Look, history has shown what happens when European countries go too far into right wing policies without proper context and restraint. I just don't want another major war over something that could be resolved with simple immigration reforms.

not only that, but we also know what happens when they go too far left, like the Bolsheviks.

The successor probably saw some poll numbers and wanted no part of the Biden like humiliation that is coming.

The CSU better get the CDU in line and move more toward the center or the Afd will continue to eat their lunch.AKK was weak, not a leader, and no one here wants a Merkel 2.0.

There are Germans in their 20s who have known only Merkel leading their country.

Remember what happened in the 30s and early 40s when a Socialist took over in Germany?

Wait, you're not going to try and claim Hitler was right wing, are you? Because that is total bullshite if you are making that claim.

No, shite.

I could see, maybe a turn from globalism to nationalism, but far right policies have nothing to do with the Germans shooting at their neighbors.

Maybe stop funneling third world immigrants that won’t and don’t assimilate to native countries customs and cultures.

The EU is a miny version of worldwide globalism. It’s a train wreck of a handful of elite bureaucrats forcing nations to do their bidding without a vote and voice.

I hope it crumbles.

That’s one way to look at history. It’s absolute nonsense, but you do you. Socialism (aka Communism) has brought more war, famine, and death to Europe than any form of conservative, right leaning policies since the beginning of recorded time.

replace all caucasians and any judeo/christian values with islamic extremism

very simple indeed.

those who implement this "final solution' will live well for a while - until the barbarians with the stones and swords show up at their doors.
