I don't have the time, need or energy to put up with the bullshite anymore, and I'm not alone.
And you’re definitely not alone. My relatives in family med aren’t far behind you. I can’t imagine how hard it is to walk away from so much schooling and work experience investment. Best of luck!

Right now I work in the healthcare field. We provide advanced analytics as well as consulting.
Unless you are going to med school... doing residency (scud work for pittance wages)... treating noncompliant patients... dealing with insurance preauths.... nor managing a practices cash flow when even the insurers bounce checks... you do t know isht about “healthcare”.
quote:I have multiple docs in my immediate family. My experience is that you’re completely wrong in this presumption.
I merely stated that you won’t see an exodus because the guaranteed money, while not as good as it was, is still better than what most will see 5-10 years into their professions.

What about those docs that made damn good money by putting in their time working their butts off and look to turn their practice over to someone who wants to make the same amount of money as the doc that owns it but wants to work 2/3rds as much?
I hear that all the time. The newly minted specialists want the $$ without putting in the time.

True. It'll take 3 to replace me. New docs expect riches without work. I'm 45 and I can't find anyone my age to work. Brought in a partner who is about as good as I can find, graduated with honors and was my chief resident when I was a student. Just don't have the extra gear. Wants to make what I do, but don't want the extra work. frick it. I think my youngest daughter is going to be a PA. May have to train her up. Told her to forget med school. I can teach her all she needs to know minus a shitty residency that's been watered down.
They've made med school pass/fail and "nicer". Limited hours as a student and resident. I doubt I'll find someone to take over. I'll oversee some mid-levels and whatever docs I bring in can eat what they kill or starve. I can give them the opportunity and show them the path, but I can't make'em work. That's how they end up in a money bind and working for a hospital owned group. Trained helplessness.

NO! Pediatricians. Not "the lowest paid doctors."
I could have labeled FPs or IMs or Psychs or Neuros or Endos, or Heme, or others. My MedSchool class Valedictorian went into Peds
I don't like the way things are, but peds are also one of the least paid specialties. My best friend from med school went peds, makes half my salary, and still lives damn well . Nothing wrong with peds or any other med specialty for that matter.
To the other guy: we aren't nearly as well compensated as your average investment banker or hedge fund manager and yet we hold life in the balance rather than cash prospectus numbers. I would say our salary is fair.
Doctors also aren't why healthcare is so expensive. Dont believe me? Go look at a chart of adjusted income vs. decade for physicians and see that it hasn't changed much for inflation over past decades... and if you still don't care, ask yourself what matters: new flatscreen TV or surgical removal of your otherwise terminal tumor?? now look at the same cost of physician salary per capita vs insurance HMO plan cost per patient.... the boat-anchor becomes obvious.
Dont take my word for it:
Forbes says this is ridiculous

Im not fresh out but what are you talking about?? Watered down residencies compared to what?? And training a PA instead? (Because you are related, wtf?.....) From another private practice physician who has made partner: You are one amongst many problems with our profession.

Primary care has been very much watered down. At least around here with the AHEC programs. I'm the problem? LMAO. I'd love to bring in a protégé and help them get on their feet, but I've been waiting 15 years for a decent one to come along. How exactly does that make me a problem? Shall I just shut down shop instead? Maybe we're misunderstanding one another.

Eliminate independent practice then we'll essentially have socialized medicine.
