Seems to me the goal here is the pursuit of victim hood -- the greater the "travesty" -- the more victim tokens you get?

Because he acted in self defense so he shouldn't have anything to worry about as far as criminal charges. And if he didn't turn himself it, its not like police wouldn't have been able to find him easily based on registration for the vehicle he walked away from
