This is from Lindsey Graham, Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman. He says committee will be through with their process on Oct.22 and present their findings to McConnell who will then decide how to proceed.

"More than half of the Supreme Court justices who have had hearings were done within 16 days or less, so we'll start on Oct. 12," Graham told "Sunday Morning Futures."
"We'll have a day of introduction. We'll have two days of questioning, Tuesday and Wednesday, and on [Oct. 15] we'll begin the markup."
"We’ll hold it over for a week, and we'll report her nomination out of the committee on Oct. 22," he continued. "Then it will be up to Sen. [Mitch] McConnell as to what to do with the nomination once it comes out of committee."

I don't understand why they are waiting this long. Allows more potential of a delay actually affecting the vote

Are the Dems going to bring in reps of the Haitian gov to discuss the adoption process and human trafficking....or will the the Repbs, for obvious ulterior motive?

This will be even more ugly than previous SC noms. They’ll scratch and claw to keep this going past the election

There's a formal vetting process conducted by the FBI which takes time. If they remove this, the Dems will cry about lack of process. They need to proceed by the book to keep the Republican weasels (Murkowski, Romney, Collins, Gardner) in line.
It's really sad that a Utah senator is considered a swing vote. What a fricking clown Pierre is.

They just vetted her a few years ago though

So what has potentially happened in the meantime doesn't count?
Keep the process the same and remove the process arrow from the Dems quiver.

Waaaaaaaaay too late.

quote:Also, there are Senate rules about a committee meeting to conduct either discussion or business. X amount of time and notice must be given and any committee member can request a delay for certain reasons. Also there are quorum rules and Dems can screw up the committee meeting from happening by just none of them showing up. A quorum must have at least two of an opposition party in attendance for a quorum, even if under all other circumstances a quorum is present. Procedural hurdles that Mitch will have to battle.

Please. They started vetting this lady when Kav was confirmed. They knew there was a good shot that she’d be next up.

The death of Ginsberg and the Constitution giving Trump the power to nominate a new judge and giving the Senate the power to act on his nomination.

Yeah. This isn't happening. Republican snatching defeat from the jaws of victory yet again.

Perhaps it's traditionally expected that somewhat of an official background check is initiated only upon actual nomination of the nominee? I don't know, just a guess. As in, a brand new background check is required, not simply reuse of a prior one.

How much control does McConnell have on hearing duration?
Can he publish a schedule where he caps everyone's time, and give the date for the vote?

Yes. It is no simple task for Democons to assemble their team of misinformation agents and character assassins to create past crimes out of whole cloth.

Same way they paused the Kav nomination for a week so they could investigate Prof. Crazy Eyes's retarded allegations.
