I notice they word it it "2/3 of the tax base." That is not the same thing as "producing 2/3 of the taxes."

Well then why is BR so opposed to it?

The site you linked also claims no increase in taxes for the St George residents. There will be an increase in taxes, especially for the school system.

If there is anything that conservatives will willingly pay higher taxes for it's education. And by that I mean revenue for their local schools. I don't have a link but I imagine this is historically true.

Not in terms of political ideology, but the split seems pretty clean between people who would be in St. George wanting to be done with the dying husk of corruption and bullshite that is Baton Rouge and the money-grubbing race-baiting leeches in Baton Rouge wanting to drag good people down with them.

EDIT: Before this post turns the thread into a shitfest, I'm talking about people I know IRL. This very thread has level-headed answers opposing the split that in no way match the character of the ne'er-do-wells I'm describing.

Please enlighten us about all this corruption in Baton Rouge?

Is it worse than the known corruption of the St George organizers like state Senstor Bodi White?

Would you be in favor of every street in SG applying to be its own city? Why not every house?

Why don't you answer his questions rather than deflect them?

If you think there's no corruption in BR then I know you are completely incapable of rational thought, much less an objective conversation.

I wasn't aware of wide-spread corruption or any major obviously corrupt deals that transpired, not that it would surprise me if they did occur. If you know of any, as you're implying, then perhaps now would be a good opportunity to elaborate.

CATS is not managed by the Baton Rouge city-parish government. Kip Holden has zero authority over CATS.

It is a subdivision of the Louisiana state government.

May there is may be there isn't! However I imagine that if it is exposed and happens the votes will be there for change. However now it seems the producers are out voted.

In today's Advocate there is a lengthly article about a proposal to lock in all sales taxes for the city of BR even if St George incorporates. Yes parish sales taxes would remain in the general fund even if St George incorporates. Fair?

Obviously the city will do anything to keep the status quo even though it is obvious that the entire parish is funding city police and city fire even though they do not serve the parish.

The obvious solution would be to have city police serve the parish and for city fire to serve the parish. They can't do this for dome reason, Why?

The same people whontell you we must have one school system tells you we need multiple police and tire groups. Why?

Don't underestimate the behind the scenes opposition to St. George from the Diocese. Imagine the amount of $$$ in lost Catholic school tuition if the public schools improve in the St. George area. Not to mention the other private schools in the area.
