I am not sure what a garners is unless you misspelled farmer but farmers get $$$ from the gov't to not put land into crops.
Around here (Iowa) they get a brand new pickup every year so they are not hurting. Their work load is roughly 2 weeks in the spring to put the crop in and about the same to harvest it in the fall.

Wow farming in Iowa seems a lot easier than any other place that farms.
