Dumb arse was elected... Pretty soon the island of the USA is going to tip over!

quote:

Not everyone is excited about Amazon's pending announcement that new headquarters are coming to the D.C. and New York regions.

The online retail giant is expected to announce this week it has selected two metropolitan communities — Long Island City in New York and Arlington in Northern Virginia — as the locations of its split east-coast headquarters, in addition to Seattle.

Let me guess, it's a fundamental human right for people to live in NYC and DC?

Education doesn't equal intelligence

This woman might be retarded. I'm becoming convinced her college degrees were just given to her

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez needs more air time. I want her on TV representing the Dems all the time.

Yeah she's totally right...not sure what's wrong with that statement. In my opinion Amazon should have moved their new headquarters to a midwestern city like Detroit. Then they would actually be helping a local economy in a big way. DC and NYC don't need any help right now.

I’m pretty sure amazon had its eyes always set on ny and DC. But making it a competition between 18 other cities means they got the best deal.

Sure she is. More housing will be built which benefits everyone.

She should probably be more upset with NYC housing laws and regulations.

Do you think this will make housing more or less expensive in NYC?

LOL at thinking Amazon is thinking of anything else except its own interests. It wants access to qualified employees who share the same mindset, so the options are California (where they are) and New York (where they are going). Also doesn't hurt that they get the "prestige" of having dual headquarters in those locations.

Economic prosperity is likely to make socialism less attractive. That's her real problem with this move.

Best way for her to attack the threat to her, is to find the cloud behind the silver lining and make that the focal point. And that's what she's doing.

Demand has outweighed supply in NYC for nearly a century.

She is an idiot BUT there are some underlying economic points that should concern every one.

1) Nobody could live on the lower wage jobs in NYC if the government did not subsidize their housing. It is wrong. This subsidized housing is in effect holding down wages. I once read an article about minimum wage jobs in NYC. My very first thought was how does anyone find labor at minimum wage in NYC? Well if they didn't have unbelievable levels of housing subsidies they would not find such help. They would have to pay people more money.

2) NY should not give Amazon tax subsidies. They should lower their taxes for everybody so that Amazon would invest there without subsidy.

I would imagine she's a freak in the sheets and swings both ways.

Sure-fire way to college success.

Then, when she's finally exposed and can't fake it anymore, she'll #metoo everyone.

It won't effect it. If it did, the city itself should lower those taxes that forced it up a long long long time ago

She has a point. Many people do not want all the problems that Amazon will bring, and they certainly don’t want to give away the farm in exchange for those problems.

In the long run, negligible.

It will be an economic shot in the arm for Queens.

What do people like her want? No development in lower income areas? This is exactly what spurs economic development and opportunity

But it can't be because:

NYC housing laws and regulations.

Of course she should be, but she's a 20-something year-old socialist who hates paying rent. She has grasped that increasing demand for a stagnant supply will result in higher prices, and that that is bad for the people competing for that supply, but she has not grasped all the reasons why that supply is static: which is New York's aggressive land use, rent control policies, historical designations, and zoning laws which make adding new housing extremely difficult preventing supply from expanding with demand. She probably assumes supply isn't going up due to geography or greedy landlords.
