I don't care how outrageous his views are. Calling Sandy Hook a hoax is clearly a political statement and Jones should be immune from civil liability.

I bet you would feel different if you had been harangued by Jones as you were trying to grieve and bury your kindergarteners shot up dead body.

Was he lying or just mistaken? Not defending his claims, but there is an important distinction here.
Given that he has admitted that he is only playing a character, he was lying and never actually believed any of it.

Sure, let's live in a society dominated by a base emotional response instead of the rule of law.

That's his legal defense, yes. Do you think he really believes that?

I don't.

Absolutely, but our legal system doesn't operate on how people feel. And that's a good thing.

He absolutely was immune from civil liability for making political statements, then he took it to the level of outright harassment.

He lost the case by default for failing to comply with discovery, not because a jury found him liable or responsible for harassment. And the Supreme Court's 2011 holding in the Westboro Baptist case is good precedent for Jones in his appeals.

Have you seen the man? Dude is essentially a pro wrestler. Why would anyone take him seriously?

That's the logic you used to determine whether or not Alex actually believes the things he says? He reminds you of a pro-wrestler?

That's weak shite.

He’s an entertainer that’s gotten a bunch of mouth breathers to believe what he says and has made a bunch of money in the process. You think the mega church preacher who is sleeping with whores and doing blow actually believes what he’s preaching?

I don't think that someone profiting from the things they say is itself evidence that they don't believe the things they say.

The guy ran his mouth, caused damage to others, and now he has to pay the consequences.

Pretty simple really.

Conflating his actions as some type of free speech issue is stupid. He knowingly attempted to cause harm using his words.

WTF are you babbling about?

He was free to say what he wanted and they were free to sue him for it.

Ever heard of slander, libel, pain and suffering?

It's not a free speech issue when you are held to account for damages.

He expressed an opinion dipshit. Political opinions are generally immune from defamation suits, as they aren't statements of fact. And the United States Supreme Court held in Snyder vs. Phelps (by an 8-1 margin) that offensive, extreme and outrageous political statements cannot form the basis for civil liability for the torts of outrage and intentional infliction of emotional distress.

No, dipshit, he maliciously attacked those Sandy Hook parents using his words and actions.

That is not "expressing an opinion".

I'm as right-wing, conservative, and liberty-loving as they come but Jones was wrong and should have to pay the consequences for his actions.

Pick a better champion for your argument next time instead of a turd like Jones.

Hey dumb shite, I said they’ll crucify you for the 5% of the time you’re wrong. I didn’t say he wasn’t wrong about this particular incident. Learn to read.

I think you need to look up “maliciously” and “attacked” in the dictionary.

He was incorrect about what he said, but he didn’t attack anyone.
