AI social media bots question

I see people posting responses in reference to AI bots with regard to social media posts but I’ve never heard any more about it. Is this what a ronbot is? Lol downvotes incoming I know but help a brother out. How deep does this run? It’s pretty terrifying to consider that our government is already using AI generated social media influencers as a massive psy op for control.
How much of this is proven and how much is conjecture? If actually proven, who is really behind it? Man forgive the ignorance but any info would be helpful . I work so much and live in a bit of a bubble. I just didn’t think I’d live to see this kind of shite in my lifetime .

Hahaha well I guess I got the answer I needed. Apparently I’m that dumb. Seriously I can’t be the only person on the older side kind of ignorant to this. A genuine response would be nice. How long has this shite been going on!?

A "bot" is anyone who disagrees with MAGA influencers.

Sort of. What I think you're talking about is bot farming. "Bots" are a nothing more than machines running scripts or software designed to perform some task automatically based on some pre-set trigger (whether it's time, topic, direct input, etc). They can be programmed to generate IP addresses, web sessions and even interact with various online features.
A "bot farm" is a collective of these bots, which may or may not be in the same physical location. A bot farm can consist of anything from a few devices to a large bank of smartphones or tablets, all being connected by a controlling device. They will then carry out repetitive tasks, usually engaging with social media, viewing videos, or simply visiting websites to boost traffic.
This is how some seemingly innocuous stories or social media posts can become viral. These farms pushing thousands of likes, reposts and even commenting on them (whether pro or con) fool the social media algorithm into pushing those things are more noteworthy than they actually are.
These farms have been limited by a repetitiveness factor which enabled Elon to expose so many on Twitter/X once he got his hands on their diagnostic tools. AI can (and likely already has) introduced a whole new level of seemingly independent thought and responses, which can remove that tell-tale repetitive aspect.

Thanks dude I really appreciate the response. I mean isn’t it a bit concerning how advanced AI is? An AI generated social media influencer who doesn’t actually exist in real life.. hell, a presidential candidate who doesn’t actually exist. The more disconnected from real life interactions the scarier this shite gets

The US Government’s Office of Cyber and Infrastructure Analysis gives its definition of social media bots as: “Programs that vary in size depending on their function, capability, and design; and can be used on social media platforms to do various useful and malicious tasks while simulating human behaviour. These programs use artificial intelligence, big data analytics, and other programs or databases to imitate legitimate users posting content.”

Back around 2013 the first legit deepfake was released, it was the image of Reagan sitting in the Oval Office giving a speech. Except it wasn't Reagan's words, voice nor mannerisms, it was Barack Obama's and it was seamless. People marveled at how impressive it was that even old video of Reagan giving a speech from the Oval Office could have his facial movements (including lips, eyebrows, eyes, etc) move to exactly duplicate that of Obama (from the video of a speech he gave).
It bothered me. Greatly. My first thought when I saw it wasn't "oh, that's cool", it was "once they refine this and voice replication technology, we aren't going to be able to believe anything unless we see it and hear it in person."
And that's largely where we're at now. With a little time, effort and the right software someone could fabricate an incredibly realistic video of a world leader declaring war on another country.
