My wife is a teacher and coaches two teams. When those two seasons are going on she starts school at 7 and leaves school around 515. She also gets paid 6% of her salary for compensation towards coaching.
What about all of the vacation time she gets ?
My sister in-law is a teacher , she constantly whines about how "tough" her job is.
She teaches elementary school art , works from 7:30 until 2:30 , gets 14 weeks vacation for $45k.

I'm also thinking of behavioral issues, but yeah.

Her kids act up, some, but I figure they must be afraid of her to a degree because she doesn't complain much about that. She's pretty intimidating at just a shade over 5 feet. (She's one of those, "It's not the size of the dog in the fight" kind of people )

So I too think it sounds measly and ridiculous.
But what else is crazy is that $500 will cost the state $40m. The $1000 he promised would have cost $80m. That a ton of money. Maybe not in the grand scheme of things but good lord.
Also, local districts should better prioritize how they spend their own money from local property taxes to better pay their teachers. It shouldn’t be the state’s responsibility to bump them up to acceptable levels.

Regular teachers truly have nothing to complain about hours wise. The coaches and mostly football coaches are the only ones that have a reason to bitch. During football season we usually work 12 hour days everyday, and that doesnt include all the film work that has to be done on Saturday and then Sunday meetings that are usually 7 hours.

Teachers are stupid. They do whatever the unions and the Democrats tell them to do. They are overpaid semi-professional parttime workers.
They also have to put with retarded parents and trashy grown ups like yourself. You know, the trashy ones that send their sick kids to school, while the teacher watches them 8 hours a day.

This is golden.
I love this line:
Which they did on Feb 18th:
Our Opinion: It should be parishes, not only the state of Louisiana, raising teacher pay
Which is basically the Advocate's apologia for JBE's turnabout on his decision to screw over teachers.
Now that he has crawfished, will they call him out for not empowering parishes like their editorial calls for?
Don't hold your breath...

Why Edwards suddenly changed his stance on how to boost teacher pay is unclear.

This is why I hate single issue voters. Can’t tell you how many teachers I’ve talked to that voted for JBE strictly on teacher raises. Without surprise he got their vote and won’t even honor the pledge.
Teachers are the worst. They knowingly went into a profession that makes shite money and bitch when they make the amount they agreed upon. Then they expect daddy government to come save them from their bad decisions.
Anyone who thinks teachers deserve a $1000 annual raise is fricking insane.

JBE's goal the whole time was to get Louisiana's teachers to the southern regional average in salary. We aren't that far off now.
In 2017-18, the regional average was $52,178 and Louisiana's average was $50,359. Those numbers are a little old and the regional average has grown a bit, but we are definitely close now if you consider $1,500 in direct increases plus the increased funding to the school districts themselves.

It wasn't $1500, it was $1000 for certified teachers and $500 for support staff. So only $1000 applies to the getting us to the average.

This is what I don't understand about teacher arguments for pay. Go do something else that pays better.
I believe that people either don't want to or cant work harder to get another profession. I understand that LA has limited jobs, but that's why you move to a new location.

It's funny how you think the most craven political animal in Louisiana since Edwin Edwards really gives a damn about the "plight" of teachers.
They're just a vote farm to JBE and even when they raise holy hell about a reversal on a campaign promise, he still gives them just $500 and that's basically gas money for one or two tanks per month.
