Not all Down syndrome children are defective. Most are active in communities, work and participate in life as others do. There are very high functioning Down syndrome adults that are fairly independent. They have great quality of life. We shouldn’t be able to choose for them.

The research I did on this was way back in the 90s so things have probably changed. The big issue then was rural vs. urban. In urban areas the one child policy could be enforced by testing females for pregnancy and doing forced abortion if they already had a child.
In rural areas the family had to have a son to work the land so they just killed the female babies after birth and buried them.
The unintended consequence of the policy was a larger percentage of males in the Chinese population. This caused a huge number of young males who had no prospects for marriage. It increased gang crime.
Japan had a population control program in the 70s and 80s but it was not so coercive. It was PSA's (be a patriot and have only one child) and financial pressure (it's your kid, don't come to us to support it.)
Today, young Japanese women are using dogs as substitutes for children. They are fine with being childless and are going ape shite crazy over dogs. The free market is accommodating them and dog friendly hotels and restaurants are springing up.

Exactly once again it boils down to taking responsibility for ones actions and that means you get someone pregnant raise the kid

That's pretty much my understanding of it as well
And it lead to a lot of female abductions which is probably the gang crime you're referring to

Being born with Down Syndrome is a sentence of misery. It's also very expensive on society and I find it ironic that any right-wing person would want to put that burden on society especially considering how much they don't like funding anything relating to healthcare.
Stopping someone from having to live life as a prisoner isnt even remotely close to Hitler creating a master race. I don't even understand how you would conflate the two

The more interesting topic on the horizon will be genetic modification
In the future it's unlikely that natural birth will be commonplace. If you could guarantee that your child wasn't born with any debilitating afflictions why wouldn't you?

The fact is the vast majority of parents just do not want to have a retarded baby. In the US over 90% of them are aborted and the US is a mostly Christian nation. It’s sad.
