China has used an undisclosed treatment to cure a patient of the virus.

But how do they "cure" a patient of a virus? Well, as it so happens, MIT has done some promising work in this regard. Here's an article about a type of drug called a "DRACO". The drug should be able to cure all viral infections because it identifies and targets cells with alien RNA (tell-tale signature if viral infection.) The drug destroys cells infected by viruses and has shown to be effective against all known viruses, from polio to hemmoraghic fever.

Hopefully doesn’t turn people into zombies as a side effect.

This seems like a bad idea to use in someone with latent herpes.

If it kills cells with alien RNA, it might kill neurons in which herpes resides. I’m unsure how that would manifest

Maybe it would cure herpes too?
Or...I guess if you've got herpes maybe you just have to take your chances with a deadly virus?

The flight was most likely from Shanghai. Most flights from China are from Beijing, Shanghai, or Hong Kong. People from other cities travel to those three airports.
