A unanimous Supreme Court decision that we should all salute

The U.S. Supreme Court, in a unanimous decision, dealt a significant blow to asset forfeiture procedures used by states. The ruling in Timbs held that the seizure of property is equivalent to a fine and the 8th Amendment’s prohibition against excessive fines applies.

Finally. Can't believe it took this long to set limits on civil asset forfeiture. So many stories out there of people getting straight up robbed with little recourse

Opinion written by the Notorious RBG.
For a dead woman, she makes a pretty persuasive argument.

Hopefully this will curb the rampant abuse of state sanctioned theft.

Even a broken clock is right twice a day!
Bet the only thing RBG did directly to this argument was have an assistant write it before she sign it.
But this money grab is completely indefensible, except by money grabbing local scum sucking politicians of all parties.

This proves RBG is not in her right mind.

I call bullshite!
Sure the evil bitch is barely still alive, but she hasn't written an opinion herself in years.
Her staff 100% did this work and stamped her name to it.

The sad thing is people have had their stuff taken when they have committed no crime.

Almost never happened.
It is like saying innocent people get convicted all the time.
While both are true, statistically the numbers are insignificant.

Google and you will see a ton of stories where that is exactly what happened. One gas station owner who made daily deposits just under $10K was robbed by CAF. All because he was honest and deposited cash from his cash business. Any innocent person being robbed of $180K like he was is significant.

Amazing that it was even a thing.

So...Dems can no longer say that the Mueller probe paid for itself with Manafort's asset seizure?

It's not an excessive fine, it's an unconstitutional fine (due process).

Trump probably doesn’t like this decision
