A Never-Trump Press in Near Panic (Pat Buchanan)

quote:
“All the News That’s Fit to Print” proclaims the masthead of The New York Times. “Democracy Dies in Darkness,” echoes The Washington Post.
“The people have a right to know,” the professors at Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism hammered into us in 1962. “Trust the people,” we were admonished.
Explain then this hysteria, this panic in the press over the release of a four-page memo detailing one congressional committee’s rendering of how Trump-hate spawned an FBI investigation of Republican candidate and President Donald Trump.
What is the press corps afraid of? For it has not ceased keening and caterwauling that this memo must not see the light of day.
Do the media not trust the people? Can Americans not handle the truth?
Is this the same press corps that celebrates “The Post,” lionizing Kay Graham for publishing the Pentagon Papers, top-secret documents charging the “Best and the Brightest” of the JFK-LBJ era with lying us into Vietnam?
Why are the media demanding a “safe space” for us all, so we will not be harmed by reading or hearing what the memo says?

Pat Was Trump before Trump was cool. He just didn't have Trump's bombast.

If that memo had evidence of Trump collusion that shite would have been leaked weeks ago. Blee dat.
The hypocrisy is astounding

Trust bought opposition research as hard evidence.
Dont even read the words on an official memo authored by elected representatives, and then subsequently voted to be made public.
Can the sky screamers even hear themselves?

What? The man who blames liberals for Watergate trying to discredit the Trump investigation? Color me shocked

The left is today celebrating the 40th anniversary of the resignation of its most despised enemy in the 20th century. But though his fall is being hailed as a triumph of democracy, Richard Nixon was not brought down by any popular uprising. The breaking of his presidency was a product of the malice and collusion of liberal elites who had been repudiated in Nixon's 49-state landslide in 1972.

I think it's going to pull the wheels from Mueller's "muh Russians" investigation. Without that, the Dems are literally DEAD in the water. Pelosi's "crumbs" (many Americans taking home 200+ bucks a month) and Trump-hate will fade. Of course they are panicking, the roof is collapsing.

Loved me some Pat back in the day. I voted for him.
They took him down with some anti-semitic bullshite.
He tells it like it is.

Besides your entire post being a red herring to begin with, he doesn't even blame liberals for Watergate in that article.
Here's the very next paragraph for example:
quote:
Was Nixon blameless in Watergate? By no means. While he had no knowledge of the break-in, he did not act decisively to cut his friends loose, urged aides to curtail the investigation, and failed to tell the people the truth.
Your ad hominem strategy aside, do you have some insightful, substantive critiques of Pat's ideas on the topic in question? Or do you just seek to throw out as many argumentative fallacies as you can in hope they can derail an inconvenient narrative?

Funny how WaPo and NYT forgot about that this time around.

Pat's entire premise is a fallacy. He can't be blaming the press for not covering the memo, surely. It's been the subject of constant, breathless reporting. He can't be blaming the press for not covering the contents of the memo, surely. It hasn't been released yet. He can't be blaming the press for covering the controversy the memo caused, surely. It's supposed to cover controversy. He's a hack.

Did you not actually read the article? Just like in your previous reference to Pat's position in the other article you posted, you are again misrepresenting his argument.
Pat is criticizing the press for advocating the SUPPRESSION of releasing the memo to the public so that it can be exposed to FULL public scrutiny and analysis, INCLUDING by those very same media entities. He is pointing out their hypocrisy of claiming to want to bring information to the light yet unwaveringly arguing against the release of this memo who NO ONE can deny would be absolutely explosive and hugely important to be uncovered if the reports of it's content are true.
Here, let me help you understand Pat's position once again, which is easily grasped by simply reading the article:
quote:
If the majority memo is released, says Schiff, the minority version of events should be released.
Schiff is right. It should be, along with the backup behind both.
So actually no, Pat isn't using a false premise, you are by fundamentally misrepresenting his arguments. That makes you the hack.

You gave the fatal blow to that idiot sky screamer
MAGA don’t stop, can’t stop
Posted on 2/1/18 at 10:18 pm to ChewyDante
quote:
Schiff
I'll try to explain simply, since you're obviously a little slow. Schiff is not a member of the media. Chris Wray is not a member of the media. Rod Rosenstein is not a member of the media. Despite his claims, Pat cites no member of the media advocating for Trump to bury the memo. What the media is reporting on is the controversy surrounding the memo, who wants to release the memo, who does not, and what the two sides say about the memo. That is exactly what the media is supposed to do. Yet Pat titles his article "A Never-Trump Press in Near Panic." That's a hack move.
