In light if these findings, we should build a housing project in uptown.

Probably prejudice more than racism.

Raw racism is often ugly in the light of day - but, I will submit that many black landlords probably have similar policies. I'm not defending it - just suggesting that it is so.
That is the problem with lazy, collective judgment - rather than taking the individual as you find him - i.e. black guy comes to rent from me in a work shirt with his name on it, from XYZ Heating and Cooling, decent references, has his deposit - I'm going to treat him appropriately, as will I the white boy with an urban "sense of style", flat bill significantly askance, visible tattoos on his arms, neck, a certain casual manner about him, no references and he wants me to spot him last month's rent and cut his deposit.
I ignore the race in favor of characteristics WITHIN that person's control - isn't that what we all want?

It goes along with the collecting rent situation the other poster stated before. I don't not rent to black people, I've just had trouble in the past with payment and am trying to prevent it from happening again.
Currently I have 2 different places rented out to black couples. Their background check came out fine

You're going to have to elaborate.
I'm not going to rent from landlords who engage in this practice. I will also inform my friends and family of this practice and they will do the same. Maybe I'll tweet about it and this landlords bigotry will become publicized and many more people will avoid his properties. Less demand for his dwellings decreases the rates he can charge.
He pays for his bigotry just as the restaurant owner does.

You would think so but some people do their thinking through their emotions instead of their intellect.

Not unlike how some clubs recognize that the lower the percentage of hot chicks, the fewer high paying men show up. That club owner might not be sexist, but he likes profits, so, he has his door man hold up ugly chicks.
Yep. And its my right to acknowledge he is a racist douche if thats the way he wants to run his restaurant.

Well what you responded to saying you would do the exact same thing, was racial discrimination despite similar background checks. If you do that proudly, you are racist in my book.

At least you own your racism. I can respect that:
Full disclosure. 2 of my three most recent tenants were black and, in a note of irony, my lone white tenant broke his lease because he went to jail.
But, anecdote doesn't trump the general reality.

What if you own a home? Why would you be in the rental market? Or how would you know a landlord was racist and didn't rent to blacks?

I think a very important fact in the article/study was that they used equally positioned people - color was the only difference.
I have rent properties, a credit check is standard practice before renting to anyone. So if you have equally economically positioned folks with equal credit rating and the only difference is color...and you treat the two applicants different - laid back with one and rigid with the other....racist?

Oh. And I think it's only fair to say that with the frequency you find yourself responding in these threads, you are clearly "black obsessed".

According to OP, credit rating and other important factors when renting were controlled for. Despite that (again, according to this study which I have not read so if its BS its BA) blacks were still "treated unfairly." The poster I responded to said he would do the same thing. To me that is textbook racism. You disagree?

I think the point of the article was that they used equally positioned people - color was the only difference.
But hey, I happen to have the same rental process for my two rental homes regardless of what you look like cause, well, like I said, my most recent white renter went to f'n jail!!!(He had a 700+ credit score for f's sake!!)
But, for a person renting a home they own, I could give two shits if they want to only rent to hot blondes. It's called FREEDOM.

FTFY - we're going with blacksessed over "black obsessed" because it has more pop and makes for a better flow.

OK...but I thought we were just talking about whether or not the treatment was racist (or prejudicial is probably more accurate).

Wait, huh? The average credit rating of blacks is totally irrelevant when deciding on who to rent to. The specific score of the particular black is all that matters. You clearly aren't well versed in ecological fallacies.
