250 years ago, many heartfelt God fearing Christians owned slaves. They didn't consider themselves morally wrong owning salves. Now, I'd argue that all Christians probably say owning slaves is morally wrong.

So, if morality isn't a social construct and comes from God, why are these two takes so different? Were God's teachings about morality different back then?

What’s up with the retcon where Christians believe they own rationalism when it didn’t exist the first 1,500 years of the religion? I would say it’s definitely true Christians and, really most religions, believe in objective truths, which should run contrary to the current left’s obsession with subjectivity. I would also say being Christian isn’t the only means for an individual to conclude they believe in objective truths.

you can do this with a bunch of different conflicts and wars, too. slavery is a good one, though, b/c many people used the Bible to justify it

now don't get your panties in a wad i'm not being a shitlord saying this invalidates Christianity, just how some people practice it on earth

i imagine lots of that is based in something i referenced earlier: the proliferation of the ability for populations to read

Well, there's your problem I think. You want to "punish" those who have the audacity to state things you don't like.

We may not know the exact definition of right and wrong but our morals attempt to progress toward it.

sounds like what the non-believers are literally arguing

But there is no "it" and there is no "progress" for the nonbeliever; those imply an objective standard that exists. There's only change.

What exactly are these wealthy atheist western individuals supposed to do about a protracted and domestic conflict in a nation on the other side of the world?

Why is my being pushed out of a party I've been in since I was 18 years old by folks who insist I'm on Team Jesus or I'm evil me attempting to hurt them?

I'm still waiting for you to tell us where we should go this election cycle. You seem to want to purge us...for whom should we vote if not Trump this year?

in day-to-day reality, there is no difference for either person

both are seeking to progress towards an impossible goal

Evidence that they don’t? What does “giving a shite” look like and how is it impactful in any way for irrelevant people to “give a shite”?

I'm not on your timeline

You don't like what I've said. Deal with it.

Vote for Trump in 2020. Who knows where we are headed after that.

I'm so glad I had that conversation with Chicken years ago after being banned about how he no longer wanted religious threads on his board...

One is rational (that doesn't necessarily mean correct) and one isn't; I'd say that's a difference.

Again, you can't call it progress if there's no objective goal.
