Yes, I am making this political. If you want to discuss the incident, there is a thread on the OT
Not allowed to own guns for self-defense = standing by while the terrorist Australia imported murder you and your family

Australia has some of the strictest gun laws in the world, shaped mainly by reforms after the 1996 Port Arthur massacre. Gun ownership is legal, but it is heavily regulated and treated as a privilege, not a right.
Here’s a clear overview:
1. No constitutional right to own guns
Australia does not have a “right to bear arms.”
Firearm ownership is regulated by state and territory laws, coordinated nationally.
2. You must have a genuine reason
To own a gun, you must show a legitimate purpose, such as:
Hunting or pest control
Farming / primary production
Sport or target shooting
Occupational use (e.g., security, animal control)
Self-defence is not an acceptable reason for owning a firearm.
3. Strict licensing system
To get a gun licence, applicants must:
Be at least 18 years old (or junior permits under supervision)
Pass background checks (criminal history, domestic violence, mental health concerns)
Complete a firearms safety course
Demonstrate a genuine need
Observe a mandatory waiting period (usually ~28 days)
Licences are issued for specific categories of firearms, not blanket ownership.
4. Firearm categories (simplified)
Category A:
Rimfire rifles (not semi-automatic), shotguns (not pump or semi-auto)
Category B:
Bolt-action and lever-action centerfire rifles
Category C:
Semi-automatic rimfire rifles, some shotguns (restricted, mainly for farmers)
Category D:
Semi-automatic centerfire rifles, high-capacity firearms (generally prohibited for civilians)
Category H:
Handguns (strictly for sport shooting, with limits on caliber and magazine size)
5. Registration and storage
Every firearm must be registered
Owners must store guns:
In a locked safe
With ammunition stored separately
Police can conduct compliance checks
6. Buyback and bans
After 1996, Australia banned many semi-automatic firearms
Over 650,000 guns were bought back and destroyed
Subsequent amnesties allow people to surrender illegal guns without penalty
7. Carrying firearms
Open carry and concealed carry are illegal
Firearms may only be transported for approved purposes (e.g., going to a range), unloaded and secured
8. Outcomes
No mass shooting on the scale of Port Arthur since 1996
Large reductions in firearm homicide and suicide rates
Gun ownership still exists but is far lower and more regulated than in countries like the U.S.
In short:
Australia allows gun ownership, but only with strong justification, licensing, registration, and strict controls—and guns are never for personal self-defence.

Blame the shooter. Not the tool. Our resident libs don’t have the mental fortitude to understand this. They don’t understand personal accountability

They also put their citizens in camps for tweeting the wrong things and going for a walk during a pandemic.

They just didn’t do authoritarian right. Wait until AOC and Tim Walz get a chance

Australians voted themselves into this mess
They won't be able to vote themselves out of it, tho.

All part of the plan- just like what’s happening Europe and Canada. All over the Western world, populations are disarmed and their countries are being flooded with people who use violence as a way of life.

Based on data from the CDC and FBI for 2023, if Black Americans were excluded from United States gun violence statistics, firearm-related homicides would drop by approximately 59%. While Black Americans comprise roughly 14% of the U.S. population, they are disproportionately impacted by gun violence.
The following breakdown provides context for gun violence in the U.S. when excluding suicides:
Impact on Gun Homicide and Victimization
Total Homicides: In 2023, there were 17,926 firearm-related homicides in the U.S.. Black Americans accounted for 10,563 of these victims, or roughly 59%.
Victimization Rates: Black Americans are over 10 to 12 times more likely than White Americans to be victims of gun homicide. For young Black males (ages 15–34), who represent only 2% of the total population, they account for 36% of all firearm homicide fatalities.
Inter-racial Homicide Trends: FBI data indicates that homicide is most often intraracial (within the same racial group). In 2019, approximately 89% of Black homicide victims were killed by Black offenders, and 79% of White victims were killed by White offenders.
Gun Violence vs. Suicide Patterns
The composition of gun-related deaths differs significantly by race:
Black Population: Roughly 82% of gun-related deaths are homicides, while only 14% are suicides.
White Population: Conversely, 77% of gun-related deaths are suicides, and less than 20% are homicides.

not possible, has to be mistaken report.... I used to work for an Aussie firm where they routinely berated me for the "evils of guns in America" and how we should follow their lead of banning and confiscation. I simply laughed and told them to piss off

Honestly don’t care.

Its also illegal to enter the US illegally yet here we are. Doesn't really matter what the law says if the people in charge only selectively enforce it, if at all.
Just imagine what the "favored groups" over there are allowed to get away with.

I get where you are going, but at least if the citizens were armed, they would have a chance to fight back and defend themselves.
Mass shootings in the US, like at Brown yesterday, are usually gun-free zones. All of Australia is a gun-free zone.

Ha ha. “Self defense “ is not a legitimate reason to be armed. That delusional crap will never fly as long as criminals are allowed by the State to prey on the unarmed.
I think that the way things are going, decorating one’s yard/home with traditional Christmas ornaments will become an impetus for attack. Has to happen sooner or later. I doubt one sees any Christmas decorations in former Christian communities that are now majority Muslim.
We can run but we can’t hide. It’s coming.

Looks like the attack was another peace loving religious cultural exchange.

And of course Charles is a feckless cuck in his response. And others with their whataboutisms about mosques being attacked.

The folks who want guns banned should reference what happened during Prohibition and that how the actions of it resulted in its repeal.
Banning stuff only keeps it from those who already obey laws
