That cloture has been used 88 times so far in the Trump Administration and this procedure was only used 24 times over the last six presidencies.
This is called obstruction.
Obstruction of justice that is.
Democrats are making it so miserable up there now why would anyone want to take a cabinet position?

No, it's called a massive lack of balls in the GOP. All Cloture does is end debate and force a vote on something. Having a majority in both chambers *should* make cloture and instant win for the GOP more times than not (see: last year's tax bill vote).

I confess I don't exactly know what the procedure does or doesn't do but this Congressman was pretty adamant that it's just a sign of the times and how badly the Democrats are holding things up.
If you listen to what's being aired on CNN today from this hearing before this committee the Democrats are reading prepared statements of just unashamedly crushing this guy's character and then forcing him to make yes or no answers.
I'm really shocked and embarrassed at the level of vitriol dislike ...they are expressing on air and to his face. I don't even know this guy but they are executing a public crucifixion of his character.
In their crucifixion they are showing their true colors and makes the Democrats look like garbage individuals who have no original critical thought or ability to debate policy.

Thank you for admitting that, but that is exactly what's wrong with the populace in general. You made the statement that it was "Obstruction of justice". Next time take 20 minutes to educate yourself and then report YOUR opinion; not parrot a congressman because he's of your party.

Cloture is a vote to end debate. So if the GOP thinks it is taking to long to approve a candidate, they might invoke cloture to end discussion on that candidate and go straight to a vote.

Even Politifact had to label the claim that Democrats are slow-rolling his nominations as "half true," which we know means they did some mental gymnastics in order to not label it completely true.

I heard the committee member democrats eating Pruitt up this morning, I have never heard the kind of blatant character assignation to a man's face in my life.
The Democrats are flat out unhinged....they are not approving anyone and they are not up for debating policy.
I guess the GOP is using it to stop the character assignations in the allotted time? And we still don't get people in...

Cloture IS the vote to end debate and have the actual vote on whatever the frick they are voting on, BUT it requires 60 votes to pass and yes Democrats are just refusing to vote for cloture on nearly everything they can get their hands on. Just like they are voting to take the longest amount of time possible before voting on every single nominee Trump puts before the Senate.
The rule is stupid . This is how it works.
Okay Senate today we are going to debate the merits of financing the wall, now the wall only needs 51 votes to finance it, but we can't get to a vote to finance it unless 60 people agree to vote.
That's stupid. The rule needs to be done away with. Go back to the original way the Senate voted. Simple majority, and be done with it.
