Thomas Edison or Abe Lincoln
You mean the pedophile, atheist, fear-monger Edison?
Or the nation-dividing, racist, war-monger Lincoln?
Even the genocidal, treasonous, slave-owning Washington?
Instead of Navy vet, medal of freedom earning, people's champion, hard working farm boy Chavez?
Or ALS beacon, renowned scientist, children's author, and also medal of freedom earning Hawking?
You fricking monster!

It's been this way since around 2005-ish, at least. AP US doesn't align with the Louisiana curriculum, but covers all of the stuff that's on the LEAP. AP is designed for advanced students, so they cover twice the material in the same time. It starts with pre-colonial and goes to the modern era. Also, it isn't as in-depth as some of the regular US History concepts, and touches lightly on some things pre-civil war. Gone are the glory days of talking about America's heroic efforts in wars, etc. The focus now is on movements, be it movements for independence, the abolitionist movement, the labor movement and progressivism, counter-culture, and so on. I absolutely loved teaching history, but I hated the curriculum.

Stephen Hawking did some pretty awesome stuff, and overcame a ton.

Yes, folks, instead of George Washington or Thomas Edison or Abe Lincoln, schools are now making kids read and learn and lionize a communist anti-American Mexican and a known atheist scientist who said humanity was basically a virus, just waiting to anihalate itself.

not arguing that any of that is not important to learn about, but I've asked him have you learned anything about the Revolutionary War? The Civil War? Lewis and Clark? Andrew Jackson? Reconstruction? Nope, not a damn thing. It's been a solid nine weeks on labor.
No. You are arguing that you don’t know your kids curriculum. Or what they learned every year.
Congrats. You played yourself.

quote:US history in high school has been split this way for decades. AP I took did up to civil war first, while some public schools did it in reverse.
When and why did this change and why is it so different from AP?
