$700 of it is government bureaucracy. It's the same reason with Social Security, Medicare, etc... are broke and why we are $20 trillion in debt.

Facilities, labor, food, drugs - things like that. Let's not forget, we are not reaping any monetary rewards from this situation, just outgoing expenditures.

What does it matter what it costs? The point is these people were INTERCEPTED and APPREHENDED violating our immigration laws.

They must be processed and either sent back or allowed to stay, based upon U.S. law. Nothing more, nothing less.

Guards, case workers, management for guards, management for case workers, fuel for travel, water, food, electricity, clothes, soap, cooks, janitorial services, etc. Many people see that number and visualize that much money going into the pockets of each individual child, but that's far from the case.

This doesn't mean there isn't unnecessary bloat (it's the federal government, it's a given), but that amount isn't all that far outside the realm of possibility.

It's the same reason why it cost the government $700k to build a 1200 square ft house for Border Patrol agents in the middle of nowhere.

Nearly everything the government does that isn't defense-related should be outsourced to private enterprises.

That $775 could be drastically reduced while providing the same services.

The economy of scale would reduce individual cost as more are added to the centers.

It's a base camp operation, so you figure the totality of all expenses and divide it per person who is dependent on the camp

Because we have to provide them with doctors, lawyers, dentists, psychiatrists, teachers, interpreters, voting registrars, in addition to the normal sustenance products, including.

Damn, with all that free medical coverage maybe I need to switch my nationality and slip into Mehico and walk back north. That kind of coverage is presently costing me over $400 a month.

But then somebody’s buddy isn’t getting a fat contract and returning the favor in campaign contributions
