Is this not excessive? Are they flight risks? Do they have extensive criminal histories? Don’t our resident bail reform posters tell us bail is not for punitive purposes?

That is the same bail that the 25 year old who tried to set fire to the courthouse in Nashville received so I thought it was low.

That’s a terroristic crime. They are charged essentially for having their thumbs up their butts.

Setting fire to a courthouse or trying to is a bigger crime than what they did.

It’s not excessive.
How can anyone here defend any of these guys at all?

It’s absurd.

Had that cop been a regular a-hole, a person would have likely jumped him and saved that man’s life.

But since he wears a magical government uniform he’s untouchable.

if he would have been a regular joe someone could have shot him and been within legal parameters.

No and no. But they are accused of a Very serious crime atm.

its absolutely for punitive purposes. But in the frame of reference, this bail amount is not excessive.

No, because they are minorities.

someone who participated in a riot burning down buildings shouldn’t even be allowed bail while riots are still going on

No one’s defending them. There’s a huge difference between a discussion about guilt/innocence and one about bail! They are 3 citizens who have not been convicted of a crime and pose no threat to society while awaiting trial, nor are they flight risks.

Theyre probably safer in isolation in prison.
