It's a State shakedown. They dont give a rat's arse about white trash junkies, Oklahoma just abused the law for a payday.

That ruling is completely ridiculous. And someone was on here the other day suggesting that Oklahoma was the last bastion of rationality. Ha!

Mike Moore was the Attorney General of Ms when the tobacco suits were settled. He made Dickie Scruggs and others rich by going with outside counsel suing on behalf of our state but others joined, I believe. Well he is involved in Ohio that from what I understand might just dwarf the judgement in Oklahoma. Kasich (former gov) is already trying to spend the money supposedly setting a non profit to steer settlement money to set up drug rehab centers. Just scuttlebutt I'm hearing.

EXACTLY! Physicians do know opioids are very addictive. It's their responsibility to NOT over prescribe pain medication.

This lawsuit judgement is a VERY BAD thing! It's basically telling people "it's not your fault". Tsk tsk.

Can I sue Ford if I drive too fast and get in a car accident? Lmao... So sick of damn crybabies that have NO self accountability, which seems to be the new "normal". It's always someone else's fault. SMH!

Also, prescriptions come with a frickin BOOKLET of warnings and medication info.

J&J is NOT at fault! The ONLY government "interference" we should have on this issue is a national prescription database for all pharmacies that keeps track of medications that people get/refill, and refuse to fill RX if patterns are seen, or too many RXs for addictive-type medications are noted.

My 26-yo son died 6/1/2018 of a heroin with fentanyl OD, after 3 yrs sober...it was a complete shock, as I thought he had finally beat the shite. My heart will NEVER heal, NO amount of $ will console me. As much as I miss and love my son, it was only his fault. An RN friend of his purchased the needles for him...I don't blame her, afterall, it was his choice to shoot up. It is not the person who sold it to him, nor the RN "friend" that gave him the syringes...it hurts me terribly, but it was his decision...an EXTREMELY sad and stupid one, but the blame sadly does lie with him alone.

My heart goes out to ANYONE who has lost a loved one to this disgusting drug epidemic.

Sorry for your loss. I too have lost someone close to drug overdose but not a child. Might I ask how your son got to the point of using as an addict but was 3 years sober? Was he on prescribed drugs at some point or was he an illicit drug user? My related started out as an illicit user but his final deal was a combination of drugs prescribed by a known pill doctor that knew his tendencies. There are problems up and down the supply chain with this problem and I think we lost a chance to get a hold on when the government let Mallinkrodt off the hook several years ago. Yes, the user is responsible but I think there is some responsibility to protect people from themselves. Ever had a doctor tell you to lose weight or face other health issues?

settlement in Ohio
It would represent settlement for the entire country, not just Ohio. Purdue would also declare bankruptcy in the process.

Yes and yes. Doesn't make sense to me to just fold. Sounds altruistic "people need help now" but why do something voluntarily that you know is going to bankrupt you unless you can come out of bankruptcy through restructuring or something.

OK just awarded a hideously high $572 million settlement against JNJ. extrapolated to 50 states, that is $28.6 Billion. JNJ comprises 1% of the market. Purdue is 3%. $28.6B X 3 = $85.8 Billion!

If you are possibly dead at 12B you can't be any deader at 85B. Surely, sooner or later someone will realize you can't get blood out of a turnip. Fight like hell - unless you know beyond a reasonable doubt that you are the problem. I see the family is tossing in 3B so maybe they fear losing much more, although I don't know how much more they have.

It's a private company. If their personal assets get pierced, they can be "deader".

Yeah - read up on them today and never heard of the Sakler family before today. Appears their entire business is in the area of pain management and shady marketing strategies for many years with dozens of other law suits regarding their strategies of getting their drugs to the patients (potential abusers). Maybe it's time for companies like this to go away, use the money to help the addicts, reset the thermostat and maybe then we can get back "to having nice things". I have heard of Perdue as I have heard of many others but I really don't know who makes what. I don't even know who makes my BP medicine but I know who orders it and Walgreens stocks it.
