So let me get this straight, center-lefties who love 538’s “analysis”. Trump got 57% of the white vote, and that is extreme/radical. HRC got 74% of the non-white vote and that is...balanced and commendable?

Because white is bad and non-white is good?

Is that what their “analysis” boils down to?

Huh? I'm not defending the article, but you're completely missing the point - Trump getting only 26% of the non-white vote is the focus. In other words, it's not the percentage of whites that vote R vs D that's concerning, it's the fact that they're such a massive majority of R votes.

I have seen more black people come out as “voting R” or Trump supporters over the last few years. Nate Nylon is losing his touch.

His point was the opposite of your question. Why’s is the democrat party only getting 43% of the white vote? What is wrong with their messaging? Why is one good and the other bad?

I don't believe that was his point or question, but regardless:

A) 43% is still a far cry from 26%

B) the article is focused on the racial make up of R voters. Roughly 87% of R voters are white while only 55% of D voters are white. Saying the GOP is a white party isn't really shocking.

It's not based on what share of a particular race comprises your party, it's about what share of your party is comprised of a particular race. Go take a look at composite photos of representatives or congressional interns of both parties and you'll get a sense of this.

Perhaps the GOP would be better served to push the idea that the Democrats are the Black Party.

One of the links in the article is to a piece 538 ran a few months ago talking about that very thing. Pretty compelling information that social pressures from other blacks are what keep blacks voting D regardless of their ideology.

That article is total bullshite.

They claim ads pointing out difference in policy is voter suppression. What?

The GOP hasn’t sought to just get whites.

The Democrats have been incredibly good at securing the black vote by claiming Republicans are racists.

I’m saying it’s mathematically impossible to state the GOP is too white, while also saying the Dems aren’t too non-white.

The racial makeup of Trump’s 2016 voters is closer to the national makeup than Hillary’s.

Trump’s voters were 86% white, Hillary’s 54% white. The country was about 72% white in 2016.

In other words, a stadium full of proportional Trump voters would look more like America than a stadium full of proportional Hillary voters.

Despite this, 538 comes with this angle. The only explanation is they must think white is bad.
