What would this have to do with proving we are starting a war?

You don't expect the military to train and conduct exercises? Do you realize that this was a training exercise?

I hope nobody stalls or jerks or else you'll have lap 187 at Talladega.
They go out in single file. Thus the "elephant walk".

And well spaced.

The F-35 Lightning II Joint Strike Fighter is estimated to be the most expensive weapons system in human history, based on its projected lifetime cost of $1.5 trillion dollars ($406 billion for the aircraft, the rest in lifetime operating costs)

Elaborate cover for the actual next-GEN aircraft that's been in development for a long time. Tic-Tac, Gimbal, Go-fast, whatever X designation it really has... Whatever it is, it isn't the F-35.

This cost a good bit, but the demonstration that we are serious is worth that cost.

Those flyers need to get their hours in anyway. Training.

Did a lot of elephant walks during Desert Storm, nothing like 89 F-16s strolling along through the threat warning pits working there way to the end of runway all loaded with bombs!

So THAT'S what the biggest boondoggle of all time looks like. Good to know.

national defense is one of the few EXPLICIT areas of spending outlined for the federal government in the Constitution

While true, our current military structure goes FAR beyond what the framers saw as "national defense".

Nah. I mean the hardware itself and the overall costs. Biggest boondoggle in history. Almost completely indefensible. Ironically, the only value it actually had was creating spending/demand in the aftermath of the financial crisis. As a standalone military project, nobody should support it.

I'm sure our small gov't Rs will be here shortly to defend this. I always get a kick out of them and their mental gymnastics. It's like they don't see the US military as gov't spending......

I’m pretty sure most on this board label the F-35 as a massive Washington boondoggle.
