While all of Earth watched, awestruck.

I always loved the shot of the American flag waving in the air on the moon - with no atmosphere . Pure magic . Even more impressive is the Lunar lander landing with its 10,000 lb thrust rocket leaving absolutely no blast crater . Simply remarkable . What an achievement !
Also , assuming we did acually go to the moon. What technology was available in 1969 that allowed live video from the moon to be broadcast back to earth in real time ? Is that technology available today? Live video , no lag from 250,000 miles away . Im curious , I want to know.

. . . with a slide rule
Certainly special stuff for me. My father plotted Earth orbital trajectories of the Saturn 1B and S-IC at Michoud. All done on a slide rule.

You mean your father drank coffee and took credit for a bunch of black women who plotted the trajectory at Michoud.

1) The descent engine was a throttleable engine and the astronauts didn't have it on full throttle when they were coming in for a landing. It was only at about 3,000 lbs at the moment of touchdown.
2) The moon only has about 1/6th the gravity of earth, so 3,000 lbs of thrust actually feels like less when you're on the moon.
3) The moon has no atmosphere, so the thrust from the engine could actually dissipate and spread out away from the engine more than it could on earth. So even though the astronauts are landing on the moon with 3,000 lbs of thrust, the force of that thrust is dispersed well enough that it kicked up a lot of lunar dust but didn't leave a massive crater.

Looks like it’s just crinkled up a bit on that curtain rod thingy it’s hanging from to me.

...and of course the American flag is nowhere to be seen n the Google Doodle.

so great not using google - frick them
and Armstrong messed up his line, was supposed to say "for A man"
The A is important because man = mankind if you don't have the A.
and how long before that gets neutered?

It flows better the way he actually said it. Even if it’s sort of technically nonsensical, all of mankind got the gist.

What an embarrassment that we haven’t been back in nearly 50 years. We should have planned for a 50th Anniversary trip in the very least.

When you have no logical answer or explanation it always results in petty criticism of others . Enjoy your delusion sir .

I was talking to my old man the other night about this. He was 19 at the time. He just said that he remembers following the coverage all day, and watching the moonwalk with his parents and younger brother that evening, and just that the whole thing was amazing.

A.C.E. revels the full lunacy of political correctness. Pope Gregory created our current calendar based on the time before and after the birth of Jesus Christ, so WTF is the "common era?"
