Yes I understand. But don't YOU want them to? Don't you think your country is better with an educated populace?

The populace can be educated without a failing public school system. We have the means and technology to do many different things. It does diminish the leftist indoctrination powers and increase the chances of high educational standards, as much as some people hate those notions.

He got a point though... this could be done today ... it’s a win for whatever politicians get behind it...
I mean they could literally get on Twitter now and say come Monday we doing this...

Agreed, doesn't it make sense to stop the education system from failing, rather than abolishing it all together?
This is of course operating from the POV that an educated populace makes your country as a whole better, which you could disagree with.

There's this problem with it or they'd have taken that win en masse a long time ago. A public relations win isn't as valuable to them as the money behind the scenes that prevent them from doing it.

Where are folks prevented from having an education? Prison?
Khan Academy alone does a great job. Same with Ted Ed.

I do.
And not unlike healthcare, you should pay for it if/when you need it (e.g., you have children).
Public school is an abject failure.
Standardized testing every child, as if s/he were the same in terms of cognitive, physical, and social development is the reason the US is tanking in the education arena.
I chose not to have children
Why should I have to pay for your child’s education?
If you’re a parent, educate your child.
My natural eyelashes are not as lush as I’d like them to be.
So every two weeks I pay for extensions to be applied.
My problem, my expense.

I do not support the abolition of it at all. I do support having it compete with as many potentially better ideas as possible.

I could but I don't. Plenty of politicians do though.

I'm sure you know this, but the most effective way to learn is not always over the internet with free resources.

Why did you quote his question and then completely avoid answering it directly?

Because I never claimed people were being held from being educated without public education.
In short, it was dumb.

One can say it was dumb not to just answer the question directly.

Yeah that's why I gave the more in depth reasoning.

Unlike most folks on this board, I went to public schools in inner city. That isht is overrated. I wished the internet was around when I was younger.

That's not in-depth reasoning since you didn't answer the question and instead went off on a tangent.

The public school I went to was not in the inner city, and was in no way overrated.
Seems like a funding problem.

If public education was so great, why do vast majority of smart people from Mark Twain to Frank Zappa speak against it?

oh boy. No, I replied to whoever asked me why I didn't answer the question directly, with this

Because I never claimed people were being held from being educated without public education.
