I’m from Western Loudoun, my family lived there for a very long time, but we are almost all gone now.

The county population exploded in the 90s, with the tech boom, and the expansion of the DC suburbs further west.

When I was growing up the Republicans were in charge, but that changed with the influx, and Democrats were in full control by the early 2000s.

Loudoun is full of people from somewhere else. There are a lot of strip malls, and big box stores. People live in subdivisions, with names like the Preserve, or The Forest. The residents work for the federal government, a government contractor, or tech firms.

Culturally, there’s nothing organic there. The Virginians are long since gone, and there are few signs of us left. Leesburg is still named after Lee, but I suppose they’ll get to that. And people are from all ove the place, a lot of internationals, either rich or upper middle class, and then refugees of one sort or another. And then you have the Americans who come from all over the country.

I think it’s a soulless and ugly place now. And I don’t have a lot of sympathy for these people.
