Could she be charged with treason? If so, then her father could have brought about the same fate as her going to ISIS.

She hadn't actually given aid and comfort to the enemy yet, so treason charges are unlikely.

If she went over there, though, she'd have been charged if she ever came back.

Not that I am some legal expert, but I seriously doubt that the government will charge with outright treason. I don't think they will with the other 70 or so Americans in ISIS right now, either.

For that matter who is the enemy in Syria? Assad? ISIS?

Doesn't ISIS only have regional ambitions, as opposed to Al Qaeda which has global ambitions and is a sworn enemy of the U.S.? I don't think it's treason to join a terror group that's not at war with the U.S.

Got ya, so she has to officially participate to get treason and not just say that she wanted to join and fight against the US.

I would say that if you end up shooting a gun at one of our “advisors” ….it’s treason

Regardless of Global or regional ambitions

It's more nuanced than that.

They both desire a global caliphate, but the methods through which they reach that goal differ. AQ, at least historically, has favored the broad push all across the world all at once. They will funnel resources and human capital anywhere across the world where they see a weakness. ISIS (and groups like them) favor consolidating Islamic lands (Ummah) first and direct their resources there...global caliphate is in the future.

Regardless, the government didn't even charge Walker Lindh with treason...pretty sure they won't charge this girl.

A woman has to be pretty desperate to want to marry a man that will treat her like dirt and can kill her legaly for any number of reasons.

Or they'd let her become a "martyr for the cause" by getting flattened by a bulldozer like "St. Pancake" Rachel Corrie.

I live in Olympia and still have to deal with the fricking cause-heads putting up her image around town every once in a while. Her parents are just as despicable as she was.

Thanks for ruining my day by bringing this bitch up

Since they provide quality psych treatment in federal prison, federal prison would be a wonderful spot.

Yep, the war on women continues.

Let me guess, you're a conservative? Or a caricature of one. The most intelligent person I've ever met is an American White woman.

Idiot.

It referenced that she tried to sign up for the U.S. Army Explorers, which if you read the link, sounds like some sort of glorified Boy Scouts.

Explorer posts are part of the BSA - they just have a focus on a particular, usually public service, vocation - firefighters, police and military are fairly common (aviation, engineering and law are also fields) - similar in focus to JROTC detachments - I suspect the growth of JROTC has cut into army explorer posts.

But, I wouldn't strictly qualify Army Exploring as "military" training any more than I would JROTC. For the record, I was a scout, but neither an explorer nor JROTC participant.
