Meh. sort of. . '

Carriers travel in carrier groups. Destroyers, frigates, and cruisers will LITERALLY move into the path of a torpedo or missile to protect the carrier

The small boys have the best stuff, because they damn well better.

Carriers are surprisingly light on defenses. Not void, mind you, but not as much as you'd think. They use the room for planes, ordinance for the planes, berthing for ~5000 sailors, bowling alleys (the figs), weight rooms, and all kinds of shite. There is a reason they don't travel alone.

The power of photonics. The current technology is getting pretty old. New wide beam photon emitters outfitted with extremely high resolution SPAD sensors will be able to increase it's tracking capabilities a thousand fold. At distances as far as the horizon, newer technology can track and measure distance and an object's 3-dimensional location in space, and do it at a speed of approximately 7 picoseconds (7 trillionths of a second).

I have heard, but not actually witnessed, shipmates say they have seen it acquire ballistics fired across the bow.

Think how amazing THAT is.

That's some good stuff.

Where are they getting their missiles from? Thought they were depleted.

From years if stockpiling.

Yup, Carriers sail in a Carrier Strike Group (CSG).

Anti-drone arsenal:
* Aegis radars for detection.
* SM-6 missiles for intercepts.
* CIWS like Phalanx/SeaRAM for close defense.
* Coyote and Roadrunner-M interceptors to counter swarms.
* EW jamming.
* Fighter jet patrols.

Drone swarms are a threat, but CSGs handle saturation attacks with redundant layers. Bottom line: Not Iran, nor any power in this life or the next, can even imagine sinking it.

Bro…so conflicted, huh? Adamantly against the war but super proud of your Navy doing navy stuff. What a joke

You think a vet being against the war is mutually exclusive to being proud of a carrier intercepting 100% missiles fired upon it?

I hope you someday find 2 brain cells to rub together.

That's pretty fricking fast. For reference, I visited the lab when these were being assembled and a little trivia regarding the gimbal and token ring that it rotates on:

each of the ball bearings that it rides on, just one individual ball, 0.625" in diameter, not 0.62500000000000000000000000001, also not 0.62499999999999999999999, but 0.625 precisely, and made from specialized M50 steel, costs in excess of $7000 each. There are 240 ball bearings in each one.

And yet there is a person in another thread on this very board who is trying to convince me Iran is not defeated.

I see more liberals upset about US service members dying.

Republicans are ignoring the death and still bringing up Charlie Kirk.

was always going to be at the pier/in dock for that long after this deployment. That’s typical part of the readiness cycle. Most of our carriers are in dry dock or undergoing maintenance at any given time. Only 2 or 3 are ready to roll/deployed with another couple available on short notice. The others are out.

So bring it to the region to immediately pull out for maintenance?
