NFL teams that receive taxpayer aid should pay back a share of its profits to the states and municipalities that support them. All NFL teams are profitable. It is ridiculous how they fleece taxpayers to build billion dollar stadiums for teams valued at two billion dollars or more.

I have no problem with taxpayers making investments in teams, as long as they get a return. And I mean an ACTUAL return, not an “economic impact” indirect return. The team wants actual dollars, they should return actual dollars. That’s fair.

Since when do NFL franchises not pay income taxes?

There is a balance to this situation

This process will be voted on. Also, the people in those areas may feel vastly different about the anthem protests. They may believe that the protests aren't about vets or the anthem or the flag and that the individuals taking part are not turning their backs to the flag but respectfully kneeling.

It cost approximately $130M to build the Super Dome.

Super Bowl XLVII had an economic impact of $480 million for the state of LA.

People who are ignorant of the concept of return on investment should stop voting.

I'm not making a point. I'm stating a fact. Our country is run as a Constitutional Republic. Now those officials are elected in via democratic process, but we are a representative form of government.

Ok, I'm discussing the problem with democracy , which is as relevant the US as it is to any other government that features democratic processes. It's really not relevant how many representatives are elected or what additional attributes a government might have.

St Louis and San Diego had this line of thinking too.

Sadly, this is a lie. Both cities offered some form of government assistance in finding a new home for both teams in their cities. They just miscalculated the greed of the NFL.

Everybody pays income taxes but not everybody has their facilities build for them.

Well if the majority of people want it, sure, the subsidies should be proportional to the people who actually want it. If people want tax payer money to go to a stadium, then they should be burdened with an additional tax; not random Joe who is working hard to pay the bills and doesn’t care about footbal

Wouldn't it be better if the taxes were added to the sale of tickets of events at the stadium instead of adding them to hotels, rentals, etc.?

Tax those who use it just like we tax gasoline.

Overall I agree but the taxpayers of the cities/states should decide their own fate.

Most pro stadiums are a net loss to the city.

Stadiums that attract out of area money on a regular basis are a good investment (like the Superdome) but local money spent is a substitute and just takes from another market segment.

Most are nothing but a subsidy to have an NFL franchise and have a short lifespan.

You ever been in business? We have a parish and a county in a bidding war right now to pay for our manufacturing plant to be built......

This happens all the time, on numerous size businesses, and is more often than not (and I’d bet 100% of nfl franchises) a net positive for the local economy.

This is not unique to the NFL, the NFL is just very publicized.

San Diego's last attempt at trying to publicly fund a stadium was pretty good. All of the public funding (~600 mil if I recall correctly) was to be funded by an increase on hotel tax for individuals that didn't live in San Diego county that were visiting...locals theoretically wouldn't have paid a dime.

But, it fell short of a 2/3rds majority.
