Let’s see I was 17 when I joined the Army.
Went to Central America as a military advisor.
I saw rebels go into the mountains to take these kids as young as 10yrs old to fight for them or kill their parents along with themselves.
Kids in these places have meal, safe from rebels, and have a place to sleep. Seems like a better deal in our shelters even if they are separated.

By the way by the time the kids are 13 yrs old most start working or are starting life on their own in the rural areas of these countries. I thought Mr misinformation Toddy would know this.

These are kids that would come to the fence at night when I was on guard duty looking for food.
