Don't want a glock, already have one and I like variety, I'd like a full size pistol. This pistol has 16 round capacity, pistol is $650 roughly. I think I want to stick w 40 cal, not overly interested in anything over 700
Give me something to think twice about.

Without a huge pissin contest, what's the big deal w 40 not as good as 9mm?

I'd like to use this gun for wife to shoot and practice w at range, I think smaller caliber than 45 would be better to teach her w

Can't do that without the aforementioned pissing contest. Because anyone who says 9mm > .40 is a retard.

Just personal preference, but agree.

Just bought the same gun for the same reason. I like how the Glock feels, but the grip angle doesn't fit me as nicely as the Springfield. I shoot it well. May buy a light for it.

You spoke first and I'm listening for reasons now. I've been open to a 9mm as well

Although every action has an equal and opposite reaction, there is more to it than just a heavier bullet having more perceived recoil.
45 ACP is a very LOW pressure round. It was invented around 1911 when the pistol was designed and most things back then would not be able to withstand the pressures generated by 40 S&W.
40 S&W is a high pressure round. They simply took the 10mm Auto and chopped it down. They wanted to retain some of its ballistic characteristics so they continued to load it hot. This high pressure nature increases the slide speed and causes more "flip" from the slide. 357 Sig and 45 GAP are also high pressure rounds and will give the same perceived recoil.
Watch my video to see me get a little more in depth.
Caliber and Felt Recoil
EDIT: While all this is true, I still don't mind the round. My HD gun is my Beretta 96. Then again, I think the best 40 on the market is the M&P40 because it was built around the cartridge.

Ha. Dont get them started. Not only do they not prefer the round, but hate it with a passion.
I was in a thread the other day where someone says that it doesnt have the power to kill/put down a human, and he was dead serious. Oh, and he also claims that police departments nation wide were demanding to end the round.
I dont get it, but I love mine and wouldnt trade it.

I'm among the folks that believe the .40 was a rushed design that doesn't perform as well as advertised. People are switching back to the 9mm and 45acp for that reason.

Aside from caliber , any other pistol option that's of same quality, capacity and value?

If you're set on 40, I'd get an M&P because it was built around the cartridge.
I want an M&P40 VTAC with a threaded muzzle and an Apex trigger. That is my dream S&W.

When the .40 came out it was marketed as 45 power with 9mm recoil. I think we all know that's not the case. The fact of the matter is today's quality rounds make the .40 just about obsolete. The expansions differences are null the penetration differences are null. The only differences at this point in the rounds are capacity and recoil which both favor the 9mm. At one point I was .45 to the core. If I had only one shot I would take that .45 still but for every day carry I like the fact that my compact gun holds 13 rounds.

My buddy loves his XDm in 9mm, and I agree with bap on the M&P, I have a Shield in 9mm with an APEX trigger and its fantastic.
I am probably going with the M&P when I look for a high cap polymer pistol
