I saw this in Entertainment Weekly.

quote:

I find it upsetting that an obscene number of non-profit organizations struggle to help those in need and yet a show like Veronica Mars can raise $2 million in less than 11 hours. I appreciate tv loyalty but donations should be for causes that further global change, not for cause rooted in one's own nostalgia.

She mad! Jesus, people can spend their money however they want.

Whoever said this sounds like a huge count. How people choose to spend their discretionary income should be of no ones concern but their own. If enough people value Veronica Mars highly enough to help self fund a movie being made, that's awesome. That means a lot of production people and craft services people and extras and whoever else is involved in the movie making process will have another job to work on.

She most be mad that her kid with scholosis or rickets can't get anyone to raise money for her.

Imagine how much more vocal she'd be if her kid had lady bugs.

So according to her people can only contribute to global change financially? Who is she to make the assumption that people who donate to Kickstarter don't also volunteer?

I was trying to name my favorite sports movies off the top of my head the other day, and this one came up.

I agree with the idea behind her statement. If more people spent the same time in effort supporting worthwhile causes, the world would be a better place.

But it's their money. I'm not gonna tell them what they should and shouldn't do with it.

Yeah I don't agree with her on that front, that donations should only be made to further global causes. I do share her feeling of disappointment that something like this can raise that much money in that short of time.

I am not a fan of kickstarter, in my mind when I think of these folks that pour money into projects like this, I think of people that have never voted, served jury duty, or donated time or money to a charity, however they constantly whine about the government on facebook, complain about work or can't hold a real job, and would fight tooth and nail to protect their DVD box set of Angel or think it would be the end of the world if something happened to their sealed copy of Final Fantasy VII.

Maybe I am just ranting.

Then again people can do whatever they want with their money.

People are entertained by films they love. Not so much when it comes to donating to a Cancer cause.

She has no clue if any of those people also give to charities. I guess in her mind we are supposed to give 100% of money left over after taxes to charities.

She's pissed at $2million? They better not tell her they raised almost $5.8 million overall.

Also, people didn't spend much money on this... they spent like 10 bucks a piece or so (outside of the super fans or super rich). I'm sure most of them give at least that much to charity or non-profits every year.

To be fair to her, I'd rather have my money go towards getting a hobo a blanket and some soup or something than a Veronica Mars movie that the studio had so little faith in that they had to beg people for money to make it.

At least those supporting the movie know it's going to get made.

Half the time you give money to a charity - You have no idea what it's really being used for.

No - I didn't contribute to kickstarter.

Yes - I give to charity. I donate my hair to Locks of Love annually. No way that gets used for anything but what it's supposed to.

So I guess all entertainment should cease. All recreational expenditures should cease until the poverty problem is solved. Gotcha.

Nothing stopping you from moving to North Korea.

the average donation was around $60. next time you go out to eat or go to a movie think about the poor people you could've helped instead of satisfying your unnecessary desires.
