In Prairieville.
Has anyone ever taken training with them?

They are a sponsor on Bayou Shooter, but most of the forum posts are from 2011. Looks like they intended to open a big indoor range out in Prairieville but it hasn't happened yet.

So they have a truck. That's good info.
Going to schedule some training with them and just want to make sure it's all above board.

Did you look under the TRAINING forum?
Vanilla Gorilla with Advantage Group is well known in the area

They've been VERY slow to get that going.
From what I've heard, the instructor is legit.

I'm not very well versed on Bayou Shooter and just found Geaux Shootin through a web search.

Thats what counts. Talking to him he sounds good. I just had some second thoughts when I saw the delay in opening the range, though of course that could be due to any number of things.

I'm only doing concealed renewal training right now. I would be interested in doing more advanced handgun classes with VATA. Have you used them?

needs a website. I see on Bayou Shooter they offer medical training classes, which I would love to attend, but it would be a lot easier with an informational website.

The best package in Baton Rouge is Precision Range.
They do all paperwork, notary work, photos, etc.
When you're done with the class part, you just walk over to the range and do your shooting part.

Did my renewal with him yesterday. Did pictures and the notary work(different guy came by)
Seems like a Good guy. Changed a few of my bad habits and I shot much better.

Said he hopes to be open late summer. Not sure that will happen.

Don't see that happening either. He has been clearing and burning on that lot by himself for over a year now. I can only imagine the amount of insurance and permit b.s. he has to go through to get that place up and running. Hope he does though.

I almost got in on that class with you. If anyone needs it, there will be a renewal class Monday at 9.

ALan Easterly is the guys name, did my renewal with him and enjoyed it, knows his stuff and is easy to get along with. He is a true gun nut and it shows, after we shot the mandatory stuff he pulled out 3 or 4 other pistols and we just had fun shooting with him for a while. I did my initial with precession and it was good too, but they have a huge waiting list and would not of been able to do my renewal before it lapsed, called Alan and he did it that night, so he is much easier to schedule with and it was just me and my friend, done at his house.

as for his range, I wish him the best on it but I too think he might of bit off more than he can chew, I have not seen any notable progress on the location, but hope that changes soon as it would be super close to the house

Baker Range also has the same setup.. of course that's in Baker. Gordon Hutchinson is top notch, but I'd imagine his classes are backed up a few months. Check out Baker Range's website .

They have been a couple months from opening for about three years.

I looked into opening a shooting range a year or so ago and I can understand why.

They are supposed to have a nice range right behind Bishop Wood in Prairieville. Still haven't broke ground.

Working on bank issues. New ventures don't get money easily from the bank. I think they're getting closer.

Alan is a very nice guy.

I think he is also probably a good instructor (never attended any of his training).

But I wouldn't hold my breath waiting on the range -- that's a super expensive proposition.

For training beyond a Concealed Handgun permit, VATA Group is probably one of the better local sources, although, again, I haven't trained with them. I have chatted extensively with their lead instructor, and am comfortable recommending them -- with one caveat. They'll tell you that Destin & Greg may not be available as instructors if an "assignment" comes up -- but they won't say who their adjunct instructors are. This is a bit of a turn-off because the value of any course is based (90%) on the instructor.
