I hear people say we need to throw the ball more, but not sure we want to throw it a lot more or just do a better job of throwing the ball deep. I think it is more about stretching the field and not necessarily throwing the ball more times. I understand we need to protect better or Mett will be on the ground. If we throw some deep passes and the WRs catch them, that will pull back the 8 in a box and then you open the play action. I know, Captain Obvious and easier said then done.

I'm just a fan, so I don't want to claim I know more than Les and staff.

passes only 20+ yards will do. All must be thrown on a rope with pinpoint accuracy and at least 75% of all passes must result in a touchdown

I'd be happy if we would simply catch more.

Utilize the middle of the field in intermediate passes and allow Mett to scan the middle of the field on his reads. Currently, we only go vertical or throw to the boundary.

We also need to start screening teams like crazy on Josh D's side.

IMO there wasn't a problem with the playcalling in regards to passing game. I felt they could have called some of the running plays a little differently such as taking it outside more or more misdirection.

The poor execution of the OL and WRs greatly limited the playcalling in the Auburn game. The number of drops by the WRs has been embarrassing this season.

I know everyone wants to blame the coaches, but with such bad execution a lot it is just on the players.

A key example was having to keep two running backs in to block 3-4 Auburn pass rushers at the end of the first half.

On average, Flynn only threw the ball about 17 times per game. So far Mett has thrown it 23 times per game. JaMarcus only had a few games with 30+ attempts, which were also some of his worst games. It's not about the number of attempts, but how they are attempted.

It depends on the game situation. If we can run it and get 5-6 yards per carry, I would not throw it more than 10-12 times a game.

More passes to slot/Y in flat to intermediate loosens up LOS and is hi %.
Stretching the field horizontal is important for LOS gaps.

He may have had 17 comps a game, but it was 30+ att/gm.

GFunk has it right, I've talked about this in several threads more crossing patterns will also open up the deep routes. And it doesn't have to be deep crosses.

heresy
But to pick up on the OP question, the answer for me is that when/wherever the ball is thrown, it is always a good thing for the receiver to catch the ball. And more consistently than we've seen happen in the first 4 games.

No. Throwing 25-30 times/gm is more than enough. If WRS catch the ball we will be about 250 pass and 250 rush per game which is perfect for balance.

The point you see LSU passing too much will be a game we are losing and trying to play catchup.

LSU is a power running team, not a spread throw it 50 times a game team.

optimal ratio for LSU's team is going to be 25 passes and 50 rushes.

We aren't built to air it out, we are built to smash people and wear them down.

Sometimes its hard to commit to this when a. the recievers can't catch and b. the offensive line can't block.

I love this team but we have to get better or we lose two if not three this year. imho
